You can barley notice the raised base. It will maintain the coolest of airflow off the hard wood floor in the computer room, especially in the winter, the floors get a little cool.

There's about 1/4 inch clearance. I experimented with this and there seems to be no pull on the fans and that they get adequate air feed. Of coarse just listening for a pull on the motor isn't very conclusive, and fan life could be shortened a little. (Me bad)
