The braces are glued and attached prior to final box assembly. An MDF spacer is used to ensure that there is a little more than 3/4 inch of room on each side of the brace and the edge of the top or bottom.

I used 1 1/2 inch 18 gauge brads to secure the braces and Gorilla Glue to attach. The piece. Once in position I clamped and checked spacing, then let dry for 4 hours.

Screws may be used to secure the brace to the top or bottom and also as the clamping action. They just leave holes that must be filled.
