Odyssey
RPM
The RPM is
a FASOR™ Electropneumatic Paintball Marker manufactured by Odyssey.
Odyssey has since sold to NPS who is now currently a part of the
KEE. Unfortunately the RPM is no longer manufactured,
but there are plenty on new ones to be purchased still left on the market. Other markers that share a similar designed
operating system are the Odyssey 02, the Diablo Wrath and various Rex Markers. Click the link below for more information on
the history of FASOR™ markers. (FASOR™
stands for Forward Aired Spring Operated Return hammer and was designed by Michael Spurlock)

Old
Style -vs- New Style
I’m
guessing if you are looking at this page, then you own an RPM or are thinking
of buying an RPM. One of the biggest questions asked is which one is it, Old
Model or New Model? While they are
cosmetically very similar, you’ll want to know which one you own, because there
are several differences between the two models.
Some of the differences include; circuit board functions and
programming, thread sizes in various locations, ram sleeve design, vertical
adapter compatibility, QEV ready or QEV installed and more. If the last statement or any part of it
caught your attention, then you’ll want to check out the link to see a
pictorial of the differences.

Installing a Vertical
Adapter
While this
is a simple task on the New Model, it’s a little more complicated on the Old
Model. Let’s first cover the New Model RPM, because it is a simple as removing
the supply hose and installing a 1/8 NPT Vertical Adapter (VA) and using a gas
through or regulator of your choice. The
Old Model will require a custom manufactured retaining bolt, an Evil VA and
some skills to accomplish the installation; we can thank bigblue02_02 on
PbNation for the life lesson on this modification on the Old Model RPM. While this had been done by others,
bigblue02_02 in my opinion, had functionally and
cosmetically done the best job with the mod.
Trigger
Shims
Possibly
one of the first short-comings noticed with the RPM is the side play in the
trigger, while they are commonly very loose, this can be fixed. First you’ll need to remove the “eye” covers,
loosen the “eyes” from their holding position and then remove your bottom line
assembly (depending on your particular application you may be able to remove a
couple screws and lay it aside). Loosen and remove the two trigger frame
screws. Slowly separate the trigger frame from the marker’s body, using caution
not to damage any wires. Once the trigger frame is removed from the marker,
place it on a proper surface for the remainder of the repair (something that
will not damage the frame). You will want to have the proper size punch and a
hammer, then remove the pin by tapping it out spines first (do not push the
spines through the trigger frame as it can damage the frame). Insert the required amount of shims need to
reduce trigger side play. Reverse the procedure for installation of the spines
and assembly of the trigger frame.
Please note that some people have done this repair/modification while
the trigger frame is on the marker, although the shims install much easier with
the trigger frame removed.
The shims
can be made from various materials, including plastics found around the household
or store bought shim stock.

Adding
a Quick Exhaust Valve (QEV)
This will
be for the New Model RPM owners as the Old Model RPM already has a QEV hidden
under the ram cap. The New Model RPM ram
housing is a single piece design, so there is no place for a hidden QEV. Adding
a QEV will really benefit your markers performance by allowing the back
pressure from the ram to vent off as opposed to being forced back to the Low
Pressure Valve. This is one of the
simplest and rewarding tasks you will perform.
Adding
an Autococker Low Pressure Regulator (LPR);
You’ll need some skills and a lathe
for this modification (or a friend that has them). I recommend you do not try
this repair unless you are confident you can do it, otherwise you could render
your marker useless. I will not be held
accountable for you ruining your marker, so know what you are doing or be ready
to blame yourself.

Modification
CO2
and the RPM
Many people
ask the following question, can I use CO2 with my RPM? The answer is yes, but
you will need to use precaution and the proper equipment. These include the use of an anti-siphon tube
in your CO2 tank, when having your tank filled ask the tech to under fill the
tank by 10% to allow for some air space between the anti-siphon tube and the
tank, use a good quality high pressure regulator (this may require the VA
modification listed above and a new ASA or On/Off) and some good common sense
(understand the limitations of CO2). Never use a Remote with the Odyssey factory
bottom line style regulators. This style of regulator controls input pressure to
your marker by pushing on the tanks pin valve assembly. When a remote installed on your marker there
is no way for the regulator to control the amount of push on the pin valve,
thus resulting in the tanks full output pressure entering the marker. The
marker is designed to operate on pressures less than 400psi and the tank may
have up to1800psi. This can result in failed marker components, a ruined marker
and/or the possibility of personal injury.
