The word passion has become over used when describing people today. The word is perhaps an understatement when describing John's focus on his medicine. He also wrote how his losses took a piece away from him. I believe that perhaps he sustained himself by speaking and writing about those he served, and lost. We are blessed that he has left some of his expereinces in writing.

Governor David Patterson, NY decreed that all American flags be flown at half mast on 01/05/08, the day of his funeral service, in memory of John's service to his country and community.
