  "Tasting the Air"

This wood carving depicts a bull Moose in the act flemen, in which the vomeronasal glands in the roof of the mouth are determining when the cow moose is ready for mating.

In this typical stance the bull's neck is outstretched, the mouth open and the lips curled, this piece is carved in Linden or Bass Wood which grows commonly in the Midwest and Great Lakes area.

Tasting the Air is 11" tall and the base is 13 3/4" long.

  "Twig Eater"

It is late August and the nights of the North Woods have turned frosty. The bull moose have shed the velvet skin protecting the antler during its summer growth. The blood emanating from the pores of the bone beneath and the juices of the damaged vegetation against which the antlers have been slashed, combine to cause an orange-brown tent to the newly polished "Crowns".

This bull has already been involved in a few shoving or light sparing matches with other bulls; showing off his regal antler, prior to the actual arrival of the rut when he will compete with other prime bulls for the right to breed the available cows.

Twig Eater is 12" tall and the base is 16" long.
