Introduction

Students engage in the short story genre when reading "Charles," by Shirley Jackson.  We engage in vocabulary activities to learn the definition of these unfamiliar words.  In addition to vocabulary, we learn how to annotate or gloss text, which means we take notes in the margins of the text to identify literary elements and important details while we are reading.   The identification of literary elements are important towards our goal of learning how to write about literature.
