1. Der Huher, farmed from about 1450. Gave 6 Schillings and 4 Haller in exchange for the right to farm the land. [Registered 1450 at Cloister of St. Peter.]

2. Hans Valler, farmed in 1502. Hans Valler on the Valgrund gave the 6 Schillings and 4 Heller to two holders. 1504 Hansen Valler to Nuwenkilchen (Neukirch). In 1512 widow Margret Valler paid the rent for two feudal estates to the monastery in Waldkirch. [Registered 1502 at Cloister of St. Peter.]

3. Thomann Valler, m. Getraud Tuffnerin. Farmed before 1540. In 1564 children were Katharina (m. before 1564 to Wendel Kammerer), Magdalena, Clara, Adam, Margareth, Theys (around 1550-1602, Farmer No. 4).

4. Theis Valler (farmed until 1602). Father of a widespread farm family. He died as the holder of two feudal estates (rented one in the Langengrund and the other in Gütenbach-owned by the Gütenbach Vogtei (Waldkirch)). His son Thomann paid 20 pounds for it. Theis m. Veronica Marckhin (her parents were Hans Mark and Maria Rombächin); she was named as widow and farmwife. Children: 1) Thoma (who probably lived on the Oberfallengrund and who m. Katharina Hummelin, daughter of Bastian Hummel; their son Jacob became the farmer of Kilpenhof in Gütenbach). 2) Hans (innkeeper in Wildgutach) Hans d. in 1629 and was m. to Rosina Rombäch. 3) Waldburg (burnt as a witch in 1630 in Freiburg, she m. Hans Walter in St. Margen-Zwerisberg, Fallerhof). 4) Catharina (m. Theis Hummel, farmer on the Oberleimgrubenhof in Gütenbach in 1600). 5) Rosina (m. Ulrich Kammerer, farmer no. 8 at the Unterscherenhof in Gütenbach; 2nd marriage in 1612 to Simon Ferenbach, farmer no. 9 at Unterscherenhof Gütenbach). [From another source (Bauern von Gütenbach) I think Simon F. was farmer at Oberscherenhof.] Rosina d. in 1615/16 in Gütenbach. 6) Gertrud (m. Jacob Dold, a mason in Obersimonswald, in 1604 and d. in 1643). 7)Madelan (m. Bartlin Ferenbach, farmer and innkeeper of the “Ochsen” in Furtwangen in 1600 and she d. in 1625). 8) Jakob (b. around 1592 d.1667), farmer of Kirnerhof (his son Christoph became farmer no. 11). 9) Adam (d. early). 10) Paul (butcher in Waldkirch). 11) Maria (around 1623 m. Hans Faller in Furtwangen-Schtüzenbach, Rotebauernhof) [From Hilda’s chart: Hans’s 2nd wife was Elisabeth Scherzinger.] Maria d. in 1630. 12) Bartle (around 1595-1636, farmer no. 6).

5. Urban Dold, farmed 1609-1620. Married before 1609 to Veronica Marckhin, widow of farmer No. 4, Theis. Urban Dold was convicted of witchcraft and beheaded in 1620. He "confessed" when tortured so he was beheaded by sword instead of burned. Before his death he is said to have proclaimed, “If I go to heaven I will ask God to bring my child, too.” Five weeks later his five year old son died.

6. Bartle Valler, farmed 1621-1636. Hanged as a witch in 1636. Married 1/26/1621 to Anna Ferenbach (she d. 11/171635). 2nd marriage to Ursula Hummelin (b. around 1611) on 6/17/1636, who d. 2/20/1695 aged 84. Children of 1st marriage: 1) Maria Jakobe, b. 8/30/1621. 2) Johann Jacob, b. 7/30/1622 was murdered. In 1648 he was listed living on the Fallengrund, around 1645 m. to Getrud Fallerin; their son Bartle was farmer No. 10. Johann Jacob had a 2nd marriage to Brigitte Facklerin before 1648. 3) Georg, b. 4/23/1624 was farmer no. 8. 4) Maria, b. 2/18/1629. Children of 2nd marriage: 1) Johann, b. 5/27/1637 in Gütenbach.

7. Bartlin Winterhalter, farmed 1638-1654. He was called artistic sculptor. He m. Ursula Hummelin (widow of Bartle Faller) on 8/10/1638. Children: 1) Susanne b. 7/27/1639. 2) Johann Konrad b. 11/15/1640, a sculptor in Kirchzarten who m. 11/14/1661 the widow of the late sculptor Johann Georg Hauser. 3) Mathias b. 1/1/1643. 4) Agnes b. 12/25/1644, d. 8/31/1685. 5) Joseph b. 6/15/1647. 6) Constantinus b. 5/7/1649. 7) Christina b. 12/18/1655 and m. 1/10/1683 in Gütenbach to Joseph Hörmann ab dem "Bühl bei der Segen."

8. Georg Faller farmed 1654-1655. He took over in 1654 and d. after 1673. He m. Katharina Winterhalderin [owner of Oberfallengrundhof with four children already] around 1654; she d. 11/17/1675. Georg Faller sold the farm for 2250 fl to his cousin Bartle Faller as early as 2/17/1655. He kept the right to live there. At the same time the former farmer Bartle Winterhalter used his right to live (leibgeding) on the Oberfallengrund. Children: 1) Anna b. 6/26/1655. 2) Jacob b. 5/16/1661 d. 9/9/1740 m. Anna Lofflerin on 10/4/1699. 3) Daniel b. 4/13/1664. 4) Maria b. 4/13/1664.

9. Thebus Beha (Böhamann), farmed 1655-1679, weaver, d. 5/8/1692 aged 70 [b. around 1622]. He farmed the land for his stepson Bartle Faller, farmer No. 10. Thebus m. Brigitte Facklerin around 1650; she d. in 1707. She was the widow of Johann Jacob Faller. Thebus Beha had rented the farm from his stepson Bartle Faller. In 1679 he and his wife received the Leibgeding on the farm. After his death Thebus Beha left a fortune of 2648 fl. The widow refused to stay because of the “everlasting presence of soldiers” and moved to the Buhlhof in Gütenbach. Children: 1) Barbara, m. before 1677 in Schonwald to farmer Hans Kaltenbach of Rainerhof, Schonwald. 2) Maria b. 12/7/1654 d. 5/6/1743; m. 1/21/1674 to Hans Hummel, farmer on Buhlhof in Gütenbach. 3) Brigitta, b. around 1655 d. 10/6/1724, m. 1/29/1679 to Josef Hummel, Vogtschansenhof, Gütenbach. 4) Catharina b. 2/23/1660. 5) Michel b. 7/17/1662, listed in Schonwald in 1707. 6) Magdalena b. around 1663 d. 1/27/1741, m. Jakob Tilger Kajetanshof. 7) Hans b. 12/4/1664, lived in Schonwald in 1707.

10. Bartle Faller farmed 1679 - 1680. b. 9/14/1646 d. 6/19/1714. His parents were Johann Jakob Faller and Gertrud Fallerin (see farmer no. 6). [Johann Jacob was murdered between 1648 and 1655.] When Bartle’s foster parents Theis Hummel and H. Fehrenbach bought farm for him on 2/17/1655 he was only 9 years old and his father Johann Jacob had already died. Jacob Faller acted as the official. Bartle Faller bought the Bachhof in Gütenbach from Bartlin Ketterer in Gütenbach for 20 fl in order to use it as a mill. But he did not seem to have taken over the farm until 1679, the date of the Leibgeding for his stepparents. He married Maria Ketterin on 1/24/1668. She was born on 3/12/1648 and was from the Unterleimgrubenhof. One year after his takeover, Bartle Faller sold the farm for 3675 fl to his stepfather Thebus Beha. But Stoffel Faller insisted on his right of first choice as a relative; however, he granted Thebus Beha and his wife the Leibgeding. When Stoffel Faller sold the Buhlhof in Gütenbach to his nephew Hans Hummel, the old farmer Bartle Faller was given the Leibgeding there. Children: 1) Elisabeth b. 10/10/1671 d. 1/22/1753; m. Johann Scherzinger of Liematsgrund. 2) Clara b. 11/29/1674 and still listed in 1699. 3) Mathias b. 2/1/1677. 4) Maria b. 3/25/1678, m. Bartle Kirner, säge [??] on 5/28/1708. 5) Magdalena b. 8/14/1680. 6) Katharina b. 8/17/1682. 7) Kaspar b. 12/3/1684. 8) Johann Jakob b. 3/13/1686. 9) Jakob b. 6/27/1687 d. 2/19/1763, m. on 2/11/1725 to Katharina Ferenbachin, widow. [Jakob’s daughter Maria married into Thoma’s line.] 10) Anna Maria b. 1/31/1692.

11. Stoffel Faller (Christoph) farmed 1680-1700. He was born 8/15/1624 on the Kirnerhof and died 1/15/1708, blind for eight years. He was farmer on the Buhlhof in Gütenbach through marriage. He sold it to his nephew Hans Hummel. He also sold the farmhouse on the Bachhof in Gütenbach on which there once had been a mill. Married on 10/4/1652 to Agatha Winterhalderin (b. 1/1/1635 d. 6/8/1697) who was heiress of Buhlhof. Children: 1) Mathias b. 12/31/1653 d. 9/7/1710, carpenter m. Katharina Scherzingerin of Furtwangen on 11/24/1680. 2) Anna Maria b. around 1653 d. 9/15/1704 m. Hans Jakob Fehrenbach (a locksmith, d. 1736) on 5/26/1674; they lived in a house provided by his father-in-law. 3) Katharina b. 10/25/1656 d. 1/4/1695, m. Georg Kern of Lehmannsgrund in 1677. 4) Maria b. 12/2/1658 d. 1685 m. in 1681 to Adam Hummel; in 1664 he received from his father-in-law a small farm with a house, garden and field. 5) Josef b. 2/5/1662 d. 1710; his father gave him and his offspring a part of his ground for 20 years for which he had to pay 5 fl a year; m. Maria Fehrenbachin of Gütenbach and a second marriage to Maria Beuerlein. 6) Salomea b. 11/6/1663, single. 7) Jakob b. 3/22/1666 d. 9/9/1740, a worker who m. Anna Löfflerin of Obergschwendhof, Gütenbach on 10/4/1699. [The German source has another marriage of Anna Löfflerin on 10/4/1740, this time to Jakob son of Georg, farmer no.8. Don't know if there are two Anna's or the author was confused.] 8) Andreas b. 2/22/1669 d. 7/22/1736, a worker on the Oberfallengrund; m. 6/21/1699 to Christine Kern of Unterscherenhof, and a second marriage on 9/12/1723 to Maria Heitzmännin. 9) Michel b. 9/25/1671 d. before 1708, single. 10) Georg b. 3/22/1674 d. 1674. 11) Rosina b. 3/22/1674 d. 1708. 12) Georg b. 3/26/1675 d. 1748, he became farmer no. 12.

Stoffel Faller had a 2nd marriage on 9/28/1698 to Rosina Ackermännin (b. 10/15/1643 d. 1/13/1710), a widow. According to the marriage contract, she brought 70 fl and would receive the Leibgeding after her husband’s death which would remain hers even if she married again. On 2/19/1700 Stoffel Faller handed his complete ownings to his younest son Georg for 3835 fl. Should the buyer die prior to his father, his widow would receive a Leibgeding for 10 years. The debt amounted to 3212 fl. Due to this change of owners, the two monasteries St. Peter and Waldkirch received two bulls as fee--St. Peter had first choice. When Stoffel Faller died in 1708 he left a fortune of 279 fl to his nine heirs.

12. Georg Faller farmed 1700-1748. b. 3/26/1675 in Gütenbach, d. 1748. In 1725 he sold a small house with a yard and a wall including some fields for 150 fl to Christoph Faller. He m. Susanne Werlerin (daughter of Hans Wehrle of Simonswald Nunnenbach on 1/25/1700; she d. on 1/23/1702. His second marriage was to Barbara Furtwanglerin on 4/30/1702; she was from Oberheubachhof in Furtwangen and was called the “good Furtwanglerin”; her dates are 5/2/1679 - 5/9/1734. Children of 2nd marriage: 1) Maria b. 7/28/1703 d. after 1767, m. 9/23/1727 to Josef Ganter farmer of Margrutthof in Schwärzenbach. 2) Anna b. 7/8/1705 d. before 1748 m. Anton Winterhalder. 3) Mathias b. 2/23/1707 d. 2/3/1791 in St. Märgen; famous sculptor, leading in south-west Germany; he received from his father the “back room” in 1743 and in 1748 he gave it to his cousin Blass [Blassius] Faller; he m. Maria Fehrenbachin on 8/24/1747 (she d. 2/25/1759 in St. Peter). 4) Magdalena b. 4/8/1709 d. 11/19/1778 in Gütenbach, m. Philipp Fehrenbach of UnterLehmannsgrund on 10/12/1732 in Gütenbach. 5) Jakob b. 7/12/1711, farmer of Mooshof, d. 1772. 6) Christoph b. 12/16/1714 d. 9/11/1796 on the Oberfallengrund; lived on Oberfallengrund in 1763 and m. Maria Muller on 10/14/1745. 7) Agathe b. 1/7/1716 d. well before 1734. 8) Johann b. 6/10/1717, farmer of Oberleimgrubenhof. 9) Andreas b. 11/28/1720, became farmer no. 13.

Georg’s third marriage was on 7/4/1734 to Magdalena Hochin, who was b. 6/28/1699 in Furtwangen (she was from Hochbauernhof). According to the marriage contract, she brought 345 fl and her remaining fortune, which should remain hers. The eight children by Georg’s previous marriage would get 200 fl each at the wedding as well as a bed, clothing, Speck and the cost of their wedding. Should they still be single at the age of 25, they would receive 200 fl. Any children to be born later would be treated according... Georg Faller seems to have died early in 1748--the death records of that time have been lost--that is the date of his testament. His fortune was 6669 fl, 5048 of which were the farm. The eight children by his first marriage received 200 fl in advance. Subtracting debts and other expenses, the nine heirs (including Barbara) divided 2538 fl. His wife Magdalena must have died by then. On 3/21/1748 the brothers and sisters sold the entire farm including the small houses, the chapel and the bells, cattle, fields, table cloth and a house gun for 5048 fl to their brother Andreas Faller. Children of third marriage: 1) Anton b. 6/9/1735, died as a child. 2) Barbara b. 6/10/1737 d. 1/10/1811 in Gütenbach, m. on 5/18/1767 to Anton Kern, watchmaker at oberfahlgrund and Mooshof and later farmer of Oberleimgrubenhof in Gütenbach. 3) Jerg b. 4/7/1741 died as a child.

13. Andreas Faller. Farmed 1748-1785. b. 11/28/1720. In 1750 he sold a piece of land adjacent to the farm of Joseph Hummel. In 1754 he bought back a house which he had sold for 500 fl to Martin Faller. He m. Brigitta Fallerin on 9/30/1742. She was born 5/30/1722 in Gütenbach and was from Kilpenhof. Children: 1) Getrud b. 3/7/1745, m. 6/17/1765 to Andreas Fehrenbach Unterfallengrundhof. 2) Georg b. 3/23/1747. 3) Maria b. 3/13/1749 d. 9/18/1797; m. 7/12/1773 to Bartle Hepting of Heptinghof. 4) Anna b. 7/3/1752 d. 1/20/1797, m. 7/3/1775 to Josef Müller, farmer in Rohrbach. 5) Brigitta b. 3/28/1754 d. 4/22/1758. 6) Eva b. 12/18/1755 d. 8/30/1838, m. 10/29/1778 to Mathias Dilger of Schweizerhof, Gütenbach. 7) Scholastika b. 1/12/1758 d. 1799 in Schönwald, m. 1782 to Thomas Kaiserin, Schonach, later farmer of Felderhanissenhof in Schönwald. 8) Wendelin b. 10/20/1759 d. 9/5/1768. 9) Josef b. 3/8/1762. 10) Helena (3/15/1764-1768). 11) Mathäus b. 9/7/1765 d. 1839, became farmer no. 14.

14. Mathäus Faller farmed 1785-1828. b. 9/7/1765 d. 6/18/1839. Owner of the farm since 1793. Mathäus Faller was a tall and strong man. He was tortured during the War of 1796/99 by French soldiers and had to flee. After the big fire in 1813, he built the present farmhouse. He sold various fields for 300 fl to the Sattelhof, in 1823 for 1400 fl to the Oberlangengrund. Married on 10/10/1785 to Genovefa Kienzler (b. 11/21/1764 in Schonach d. 9/26/1833, parents: Josef Kienzler and Agatha Hör. On 1/7/1828 Mathäus Faller handed his farm to his son Josef Faller for 5500 fl. As a Leibgeding he kept the blacksmith’s shop for himself. Listed in the contract are the following: 202 Juchert field, 117 Juchert forest, 13 Juchert grassland. On 1/22/1832 he sold a small house with garden to his daughter Kreszens (married to the watchmaker Stefan Winterhalder) for 425 fl. Mathäus’s second marriage was on 7/24/1837 to Maria Faller (b. 8/9/1792 in Gütenbach, parents: Mathias Faller and M. Agathe Mark). She later married Blasius Winterhalder on 5/7/1840.

Children of 1st marriage: 1) Mathäus b. 9/23/1786 d. 9/25/1786. 2) Martin b. 11/10/1787. 3) Georg b. 4/17/1789 died as a child. 4) Kreszens b. 6/11/1790 d. 9/11/1866; m. 12/6/1832 to Stefan Winterhalder, a watchmaker, on the OberFahlgrund. 5) Alois b. 6/8/1792 d. 12/26/1854; a watchmaker; in 1817 he received a small house from his father; m. 9/1/1817 to Judith Furtwängler from Furtwangen. 6) Katharina b. 4/23/1794 d. 10/4/1866 in Triberg; m. 7/16/1823 to Quirin Kienzler of Schonach, who owned a clockshop in Triberg. 7) Nikolaus b. 12/1/1795, d. 1828 in France. 8) Johann b. 6/19/1797, married in France. 9) Genovefa b. 3/1/1799. 10) Raimund b. around 1803, reported missing in France in 1828. 11) Josef b. 11/4/1804 d. 1845; became farmer no. 15.

15. Josef Faller farmed 1828-1845. b. 11/4/1804 d. 11/28/1845. On 6/11/1830 he sold 12.1 Juchert land (field, grassland and forest) to his brother Alois Faller for 500 fl. He bought from his brother-in-law Stefan Winterhalder the small house with garden for 500 fl in 1843. The seller kept the right to lodge there. He married Anna Dorer on 1/7/1828 (b. May 1802 in Rohrbach, parents: Mathaeus Dorer and Maria Anna Neininger; d. 11/8/1828). His 2nd marriage was on 1/7/1829 to Verena Löffler (b. 5/15/1805 d. 12/6/1830 parents: Mathaeus Löffler and Anna Maria Kern of Dilgerhof in Rohrbach). His 3rd marriage was on 5/16/1831 to Apollonia Kern (b. 4/18/1806 d. 4/12/1870). Apollonia owned the farm for 16 years after Josef’s death. Children of 1st marriage: 1) Engelbert b. 10/23/1828. Children of 2nd marriage: 1) Adelheid [daughter] b. 10/5/1829 d. 1/21/1891; she m. Mathias Fehrenbach of Unterfallengrundhof on 5/24/1849. [Mathias was listed as farmer no. 30 at Bachwirtshof in the Bauern von Gütenbach.] Children of 3rd marriage: 1) Balbina b. 4/1/1833. 2) Richard b. 4/3/1834 and m. in Sona City, Iowa, USA. 3) Leander b. 5/7/1835 d. 3/27/1836. 4) Genofeva b. 6/25/1836 d. 4/26/1837. 5) Joseph b. 3/10/1839 d. 1906; he became farmer no. 16. 6) Cölestine b. 4/21/1840 d. 2/10/1865 in Gütenbach; m. 4/5/1864 to Germann Scherzinger of Kirnerhof, Gütenbach. 7) Salomon b. 8/11/1841 d. 9/18/1841.
