गुढी पाडवा

गुढी पाडवा - हिंदू नववर्षाचा प्रारंभ - साडेतीन मुहुर्ता पैकी एक मुहुर्त म्हणजे गुढी पाडवा. श्री रामचंद्र १४ वर्ष वनवास संपवून लंकेच्या रावणाचा वध करून विजयी होवून आपल्या अयोध्येला परत आले तो दिवस म्हणजे चैत्र शुद्ध प्रतिपदा होय. अयोध्या नगरातील लोकानी घरोघरी गुढ्या, तोरणे उभारून आनंद व्यक्त केला म्हणून गुढी पाडवा हा सण दर वर्षी साजरा केला जातो. कोणत्याही गोष्टीचा प्रारंभ करण्यास हा दिवस शुभ समजला जातो. ह्या दिवशी नवीन संवत्सराचा प्रारंभ होतो व नवे पंचांगही सुरु होते. शालिवाहन शकाची सुरुवात याच दिवशी झाली. घरोघरी गुढ्या उभारून ह्या विजयाचा आनंद साजरा केला जातो. गुढीकरीता पितळेचा किंवा चांदीचा तांब्या, कडुलिंबाचा डहाळा, साखरेची गाठी, जरीचा खण कापड अथवा फ़ुलांची माळ एवढे साहित्य घेवुन गुढी उभारावी. गुढीला हळद कुंकु वाहावे. दारावर आंब्याच्या डहाळीची किंवा पानांची माळ करून लावावी. नवीन वर्षाच्या पंचागाची पूजा करावी. गुढी पाडव्याच्या दिवशी सकाळी अभ्यंगस्नान करून कडूनिंबाच्या पानाचे चूर्ण जीरे, हिंग, मीठ, ओवा व साखर चिंचेत भिजवून खाण्याची प्रथा आहे. त्यामुळे आरोग्य लाभते. या दिवशी मुख्यत्वे करून पुरण पोळी, पुरणाची आमटी, श्रीखंड-पूरी, किंवा गव्हाची/शेवयाची खीर असा स्वयंपाक करतात. गुढी सायंकाळी ४ वाजण्याच्या पुढे केंव्हाही उतरावी.गुढी उतरवीण्यापूर्वी हळद कुंकु अक्षता वाहून नंतर उतरावी. संकलन - श्री. मदन सावंत

Gudhi Padwa Function

Our Marathi Mandal, Sacramento brings you the first exciting family event of 2006 - Gudhi Padwa!

When: Sunday April 2nd, 2006; Sharp 3:00pm - 8:00 pm; (doors close at 8:00pm)

Location: VFW Hall - (Veterans of Foreign Wars); 8990 Kruitof Way - (Cross Roads Hazel Ave and Sunset Ave); Fair Oaks, CA 95628

Directions (Map): From I-80, Madison East/South - 7.1 miles; After Kenneth Ave - Turn right on Hazel Ave; just before a mile - pass Sunset and immediate - turn left on Kruitof Ave; Hall is left on inside road after about 1/8 mile; From I 50, Hazel - go North - Turn right on Kruitof (before Sunset)

Charges: $7 for each Adult (16 and above); $3 for each Child (ages 7-15); Free for kids of age 6 and below; PLEASE PAY IMMEDIATELY. PRE-PAYMENT DURING NEXT FEW DAYS IS REQUIRED FOR ATTENDANCE.

Antakshari

Marathi Mandal Sacramento is pleased to announce "Antakshari 2006", an Antakshari of Hindi and Marathi songs. Antakshari (gaanyaachyaa bhendyaa ) as a program is familiar to all of us. When we play Antakshari we get a chance to listen or sing new songs, revive memories of old songs, have fun with lyrics and have a good time in general. We thought we should have Antakshari contest this year for Gudi Padwa to create an environment for all of us to participate / enjoy and take home good memories of the evening. This is the place where you can let-loose your singing passion among friends. There are a number of exciting rounds including the Audio-Visual Round. So beware!!Also, don't get disheartened if you do not get a chance to participate. There are a lot of open questions for viewers with an incentive for correct answers !!

Rules

1. SONGS: Only Marathi or Hindi songs from movies are allowed. i.e. Bhajans, Ghazals etc are also allowed but only if they are from the movies. When there is uncertainty about any song or its movie, the Host(s) may choose to consult the audience.

2. TEAMS: The number of teams and team-size will be decided before the event.

3. PARTICIPANTS: Since participation is limited and entries are many, just before the event there will be qualifying rounds. The winners of these qualifying rounds will then move to the main Antakshari round. Participants cannot choose their own partners. (This will be decided by draw of chits)

4. ROUNDS: There will be several rounds (limited only by time!) - traditional, buzzer, audio and video rounds.

5. RULES: The rules for each round will be announced before each round. No songs will be repeated during the show. At least two lines need to be sung correctly for a correct rating.

6. KIDS ROUND: There will be a round where kids of age below 15 can participate in the fun.

7. AUDIENCE: Keeping in view the fun aspect we have ample opportunities for the audience to participate as well - but only when the Host allows it, please! We request everyone to avoid offering unsolicited assistance to the teams. Audience, who answer correctly, will be recognized and applauded by all !!!

8. SCORING: Each round has its own points system, which will be announced before the round. There will not be any negative points. Partially correct song will not earn any points. Final score is based on the formula: total scores of all the rounds. If there is a tie at the end, a buzzer audio round will be conducted to break the tie.

9. PRIZES: There will be memorable prizes for the First and Second teams. Kids will also have prizes for their round.

10. FINAL DECISION: The Host/Judge's decision will be final and cannot be challenged.

Haldi Kunku

We are planning a very conventional theme for Haldi Kunku. We encourage ladies to wear traditional sarees and also for accessories wear 'Nath' along with all the other finery to grace the occasion.

DRAWINGS BY KIDS FOR GUDI PADWA

Hello Kids (and even adults),
Draw something that is related to the festival:
some scene or a picture of some character, you can even draw a Gudhi or Pujeche saman or something like that Kids can take help from your parents, keep these points in mind while creating a Picture:

The topic is: Gudhi Padwa (Picture should be related to the topic)

It should not be too small in size, (minimum 8 by 10 inches in size)

Make a black border line or say frame line to your picture (small/big doesn't matter)

I am asking you to go according to these instructions, so that we can manage hanging all pictures in the hall also if they all have same Border/Frame color then it will look much better to viewers. I know you all are going to work really wonderful for these drawings so I want that each Picture should get appreciated by everyone. If you have any questions feel free to email me anytime. Please bring the pictures to the programme. Okay then BEST LUCK!

KIDS PARTICIPATION IN ACTUAL "GUDI UBHARNE"

Dear Friends,
WON'T YOU LIKE TO LET YOUR CHILD KNOW AND EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND HOW TO SET UP "GUDHI"? SO INFORM ME ABOUT YOUR OK FOR PARTICIPATION.

As you know we are staging an INNOVATIVE, NEVER SEEN BEFORE skit for kids to demonstrate "Gudi ubharane" with a background to enact the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of "Vanvas".

This is an extempore activity/skit that will be staged directly on the day we are getting together to celebrate "Gudi Padwa". No rehearsal is necessary. No pressure of being right or wrong the whole emphasis is about participation of kids in any role. Hence we want all the kids to participate in it. Participants are required for "Ayodhya chi Janata" for "Gudhi Ubharne" for "Jaya-ghosh", and "Vanar Sena" behind Lord Rama & Sita.

No kid will be left out - ALL are welcome.

**** For parents who want their kids to participate in "Gudhi Ubharane" please let us know the names of kids and please bring following items with you

Wooden stick for Gudi (Proportionate to kids size and handling capacity). You can probably find it in Home Depot.

1 Garland of flowers

2 "Kadulimba chi Pane" or any convenient equivalent (natural or artificial)

3 Colored Cloth (Any color but No Black & White please)

4 "Ambya chi Pane" (Mango Tree Leaves) or any convenient equivalent (natural or artificial)

5 "Sakhar Gathi chi mala" (Sweet Candy Garland) - or any equivalent (Say Marshmellow)

6 "Kalash" (any metal pot) with size to suit the "Gudi"

7 "Sutali" (jute rope) to tie everything to "Gudi" (Don't miss out this item!)

Traditional Indian Dress for kids will look good! RAM AND SITA ALERADY HAVE COME FORWARD. YOUR KID WILL BE WALKING ON THE STAGE BEHIND RAM AND SITA FOR "RAM-RAJYA-ABHISHEK".
