US 20 Association Annual Meeting Set for July 11
Meeting to be held at the Sioux City Public Museum

For Immediate Release: June 23, 2014

Sioux City, Iowa - The US 20 Corridor Association will hold its annual meeting on Friday, July 11, 2014, in Sioux City. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am at the Sioux City Public Museum, 607 4th Street. In addition to regular business, Association members will elect board members and officers.  The City of Sioux City and SIMPCO are the local hosts for the Association's meeting; Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott will attend and offer welcoming remarks.

As the US 20 Association approaches the annual meeting, they face three realities.  The Iowa General Assembly completed its session without addressing the need for additional revenue for transportation infrastructure again this year. Despite having a bill to increase the user fee on fuel the first week of the legislative session then passed out the House Transportation Committee with bi-partisan support, no progress was made in either Chamber. In June, the Iowa DOT Commission approved the next Five Year Plan covering years 2015-2019. The newly added year (2019) did not include any additional programming for US 20.  Lastly, the make-up of the DOT Commission has changed. Only one of the Commissioners resides west of I-35.

"Our Association will continue to be strong advocates for statewide four-lane US 20," remarked Shirley Phillips, president of the Association and executive director of the Western Iowa Tourism Region. "Construction between Moville and Correctionville will begin this summer. We need everyone to remain engaged as we work toward completion - it won't be time to let up until the last ribbon is cut."

Association board members whose terms expire in 2014 are Pam Anderson, Calhoun County; Robert Bergendoff, Storm Lake; Rita Frahm, Ida County; Sharon Mayo, Sac City; Wayne Lewis, Sioux City; Jim Patrick, Storm Lake; and David Tripp, Woodbury County. These board members are eligible for re-election and members of the Association can self-nominate for possible election to the board as well.

Other current board members are Mark Buschkamp, Cherokee County; George Crouse, Lake View; Sharon Ann Irwin, Early; Bob Singer, Webster County; Barbara Sloniker, Sioux City; Gary Nicholson, Calhoun County; Mary Gross, Holstein; David Kwikkel, Holstein; Mark Monson, Woodbury County; Shirley Phillips, Sac County; Marlo Schoer, Holstein; Vincent Triggs, Pocahontas County; and Daryl Watts, Eagle Grove.

Present officers of the Association are Shirley Phillips, president; Bob Singer, first vice president; Mary Gross, vice president; and Sharon Irwin, secretary/treasurer.

All are welcome to attend the US 20 Association meeting. More information on the Association and statewide four-lane US 20 is available at www.4lane20.com.
