Latitude 88 North

"Latitude 88 North", a previously unreleased song from the Out of the Blue sessions, will be released as a new Electric Light Orchestra single in January 2007.

According to the Face the Music website, promo CDs and orange colored vinyl 7" singles are being sent to radio stations in the UK. From the sample available on the FTM website, it sounds like a fantastic song.

Fantastic! It is a great-sounding song: a cross between classic ELO and the Wilburys. I'm glad to hear the strings too.

I don't think Bev is on drums, though. Does anyone know if credits are listed anywhere?

Hope the chorus stands up like the first few lines of the first verse, if it does i think we may have a classic on our hands, heres hoping - Merry Xmas

Strings? You hear strings? Where? All I can hear is jangly guitars, a lovely vocal by Jeff and that dreadful drum sound I've come to despise.

Still, it beats "Surrender" by a million miles so I'm cautiously optimistic!

At least it's something and I look forward to this with much gusto as I always have before.

It sounds like something left over from the Xanadu sessions...

I heard the song sample a few weeks ago and it was like discovering hidden ELO treasure! I loved what I heard and can't wait to listen to the whole song over and over again. Thanks for sharing the news on your blog.

Don't know what it is but Surrender never sounded like it could have come from New World Record and in much the same way L88N doesn't sit terribly well in Out of the Blue.

I like the sound of the Quick and the Daft though.

Anyway L88N - great song - shame about the twang in the chorus.

Hell of a song, very catchy, it reminds me of taking ELO from 1977, and mixing it with the Jeff Lynne produced albums of the 1980s with a little taste of 2007.

And btw, the drum sound is awesome!!

I checked the UK donload chart last week but didn't find it. I know there were problems finding the song on iTunes during the first few days of release. Sony botched it again.
