“Vicki Rasmussen has created a wonderful book to
guide parents as they help their children learn to read. Teaching reading through the cultural
practices of the home is such an important support to a child’s efforts to
learn to read. Any educator would welcome
the assistance of the home in preparing and teaching children to read. While children may well learn to read in the
home from a parent using the process Mrs. Rasmussen outlines, the process
outlined in her book also supports any school’s efforts to teach reading. Better readers will come from homes
emphasizing reading.”

This month's featured article "How Young Is
Too Young? Any Child Can Read the Book of Mormon" is
by Vicki Lynn Rasmussen. Sister Rasmussen is the author of the resourceful and
creative book "Head Start with the Book of Mormon." She is a
specialist in teaching pre-school children how to read and now shows us how we
can do so by using the Book of Mormon. Psychologists tell us that children
formulate their values before the age of eight. Joseph Smith taught that a man
could draw nearer to God by reading the Book of Mormon than by any other book.
That is why we believe Vicki's book is so important; it shows us how teach our
children correct principles while they have fun learning to read. In this
month's article, Vicki shares with us some quick tips on using scripture
reading time to teach young children how to read. It is a
great gift for helping parents teach their children the most important
things in life.
