Currency and Credit Cards
The unit of currency is the Jamaican dollar, which uses the same symbol as the US dollar ($). Currency can be easily exchanged at the airport or during regular business hours at banks throughout the island. Traveler's Checks are widely accepted as well as major credit cards. However, it is a good idea to always have some Jamaican currency available.

There are two international airports in Jamaica:

Norman Manley International Airport, Kingston
Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay

The majority of visitors to Jamaica arrive at the Sangster Airport. Customs is generally a breeze.

As of January 1st, 2007 all visitors from the US must present proof of citizenship in the form of a passport.

Electrical System
110 volts/50 cycle is standard, the same as the US and Canada.

Health
Jamaica poses few health risks. The water is chlorinated and potable.
Food hygiene standards are generally very high.
