Climate
One of the most alluring features of Jamaica is its idyllic tropical climate. The temperature along the coast ranges between 79 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

Clothing/Appropriate Attire
Lightweight, summer-type clothing is best throughout the year. Some visitors might appreciate a light-weight jacket or sweater on a rare evening. Swimwear is acceptable on the beaches or around the pool, but not in the streets.

Currency and Credit Cards
The unit of currency is the Jamaican dollar, which uses the same symbol as the US dollar ($). The official rate of exchange fluctuates and as of January 1st, 2008 it was approximately $70 Jamaican to $1 US. To look up the current rate of exchange click here. Currency can be easily exchanged at the airport or during regular business hours at banks throughout the island. Traveler's Checks are widely accepted as well as major credit cards. However, it is a good idea to always have some Jamaican currency available.

Airports
There are two international airports in Jamaica:

The majority of visitors to Jamaica arrive at the Sangster Airport. Customs is generally a breeze.

Entry Requirements
As of January 1st, 2007 all visitors from the US must present proof of citizenship in the form of a passport.

Electrical System
110 volts/50 cycle is standard, the same as the US and Canada.

Health

Jamaica poses few health risks. The water is chlorinated and potable.
Food hygiene standards are generally very high.
A visitor's greatest threats are dehydration and an excess of sun and alcohol.
