bullet  General Notes:

Laurence Armstrong never married. When he was a boy, his father had a bad stroke. His mother was blind. There were no government agencies to help at that time. The church helped them out some. The minister finally was instrumental in getting them a small amount of financial aid. Eventually, Laurence's father was taken to an institution at 999 Queen ST. W. in Toronto to be cared for. Ivan Trick tells of visiting him there. He recognized Ivan and his mind was still clear. Laurence's aunt Elsie came from Vancouver and took his mother back to British Columbia to care for her. He was only about 13 and came under the care of the Children's Aid Society, where he received a good education and graduated from grade 13. Hewas a good artist and spent several years in Europe working at the art museums. When he came back to Manitoulin Island, he lived with Kay and Armstrong for the first winter. He then obtained a mobile home and moved it onto the old family property on Kemp Lake Rd. near Silver Lake.
