Author of Salvation

"How then shall we escape, if we neglect such a Great Salvation; which at the first was spoken by the Lord (Jesus), and was confirmed unto us by those who heard Him; and God (the Father) also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? For He (God) has not put the world to come of which we speak, into subjection to the angels. But someone in a certain place testified, saying, 'What is man, that You are mindful of Him, or the Son of Man, that You visited Him?' You made Him (Jesus) a little lower than the angels; You crowned Him with glory and honor, and seated Him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under His feet (Psalm 8:4-6, of David). For in that He (the Father) did put all-things in subjection under Him (Jesus), He left nothing that is not put under Him. But currently we do not see not all things put under Him. But we do see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; because He (Jesus), by the grace of God has tasted death for every man! For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons into glory, to make their Author of Salvation perfect through sufferings." (Hebrews 2:3-10)

Author: from the Greek word archegos which means: author, originator, founder, prince, leader, captain; it literally means "First-leader" - and thus "does not strictly mean 'author' in the sense of a writer, but rather a person who is the originator, inventor, creator, pioneer, or founder of something new or unique; and who continues as it's leader and sustainer.

Salvation: from the Greek word soterias, a noun, which means: salvation, deliverance, preservation, safety. (similar to soter: meanings a Savior, a Deliverer; properly, the Savior, Jesus the Christ, who saves believers from their sin, and eternal suffering, and delivers them into His safe keeping.) Both words derived from From sozo: meaning "to save, to deliver, to rescue. Thus, in context, Salvation is the 'state of existence of being saved' from sin and its eternal consequences.

Author of Salvation: In context, this title means: Jesus is the Originator of Our Salvation, He is the Source of Our Salvation, and He is the Author of Our Salvation! He is our Savior. who has saved us from sin and its eternal consequences through His death on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins. And He, Jesus, continues to be our Savior, and Lord, and King, forever! Apart from Christ Jesus there is No Salvation.

Here 'Salvation' is referring to the 'state-of-existence' that a person is in once they have been saved from the consequences of sin by the work and ministry of Jesus, the promised Messiah. This everlasting-conscious state of Salvation that people receive when Jesus becomes their Savior is explained in many passages in the Bible; of which a few are as follows:

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with Child by the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, you son of David, do not fear to take unto yourself Mary as your wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shalt call His name Jesus; for He shall save His people from their sins.' Now all this was done, so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet (Isaiah 7:14), saying, 'Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His Name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, 'God with us'."
(Matthew 1:18-23)

"Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up (on the cross); so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave His Only Begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes on Him is not condemned: but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the Name of the Only Begotten Son of God." (John 3:16-17)

Jesus: The proper name of the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God; from the Greek word: ,'Iesous' which is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua which means: "Jehovah (God) is Salvation" - and His other proper Name is Emmanuel, which means 'God with us.' Both names confirm the Divinity of Christ Jesus! These two Names also uphold the Oneness, and unity of purpose of the Father and Son in securing our Salvation in and through Jesus.

"Then said Jesus unto them again, "Truly, truly, I say unto you, I am the Door of the Sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the Door. By Me, if any man enters in, he shall be Saved, and shall go in and out, and find (safe & secure) pasture." The thief comes only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come so that they might have Life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd; and the Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But he who is a hireling, and not the Shepherd, whose own sheep they are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep. The hireling flees, because he is a hireling, and does not care about the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd, and I know My sheep, and My own know Me. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And I have other sheep, who are not of this fold; they also I must bring; and they shall hear My voice; and there shall be one flock, and One Shepherd. Therefore, My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. No man takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself (willingly). I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again; this commandment I have received of My Father. (John 10:7-18)

"Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, "You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we this day are being examined for the good deed done to the sick man, by what means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified; and whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the Stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the Chief Cornerstone. Nor is there Salvation in any other; for there is no other Name under heaven given among men, by which we must be Saved."
(Acts 4:8-12)

"But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, has made us alive together with Christ; by grace you are saved! and He has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; so that in the ages to come He (the Father) might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness towards us through Christ Jesus. For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God; and not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has beforehand ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:4-10)

"No man takes this honor (of becoming a high priest) unto himself; except he who is called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to becoming a high priest. But He (the Father) who said unto Him, 'You are My Son, today have I begotten You' (Psalm 2:7), also said He in another place, 'You are a Priest forever, accordingr the Order of Melchisedec (Psalm 110:4).' And in the days of His flesh (His human years on earth), when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him (the Father) who was able to save Him (Jesus) from death, He was heard in His devotion. (See Luke 22:39-46 - the agony in the garden story). And, Although He was a Son, He learned, from the things which He suffered, obedience; and being perfected, He became for all those who obey Him the Author of Salvation Eternal ." (Hebrews 5:4-9)

Author: from the Greek word aitios which means: the causer of, the originator of, the source of, the author of, whether in a positive or negative sense. In context, it is used in a very positive and good sense, and speaks of our eternal salvation, caused by, and achieved by the sufferings on the cross by the perfect unbmemished Lamb of God - Jesus!

'And-being-perfected': from the Greek word teleiōtheis which means: to bring to an end, to complete, to perfect. To consummate, to reach the end-goal, by focusing on the end goal, and working through the entire process so as to reach the end goal. In context, Jesus reached and fufilled His First Coming end goal, by learning obedience from the things which He suffered; as it says:

"...Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name; so that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:6-11)

And again: "..., by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous." (Romans 5:19b)

For all those people who believe in Jesus, and listen to Him, and obey Him as Lord of lords, and King of kings; to these believers Jesus becomes their Savior from sin, their Eternal Author of Salvation! Jesus is the Cause of Our Salvation, He is the Originator of Our Salvation, He is the Source of Our Salvation, and He is the Author of Our Salvation! And We are made righteous in Christ Jesus, as it says, "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has beforehand ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
