the AMEN

"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the Creation of God; I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, 'I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing;' and do not know that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked; I counsel you to buy from Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, so that you may be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness may not appear; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, so that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.' " (Revelation 3:14-19)

Amen: from the Greek word Amen "which is itself simply borrowed from the Hebrew word Amen." The root meanings are 'to be firm, or to be sure, or faithful, or trustworthy, or true, or truth; sometimes translated truly or verily. (When used at the end of a prayer, or praise Amen means "so let it be" as an expression of agreement, or desire, that the prayer would be Faithful and True to the will of God.)

Firm: solidly in place and stable, having a firm foundation.
Sure: showing resolute determination and strength of character.
Faithful: loyal, constant, and steadfast; true to the original facts or message.
Trustworthy: able to be relied on as honest and truthful.
True: to be accurate and exact in accordance with fact and reality.
Truth: the quality or state of being true.

This title of Jesus, the Amen, is defined even further by the title of Jesus that follows: the Faithful and True Witness.

In Isaiah 65:16, the title "the God of Truth," which in Hebrew is simply "the God of Amen", is used of the Father, and has similar meaning, or application, as the title 'Amen' that Jesus uses for Himself. Also, both titles are used within the context of prophetic rebuke towards the people of God.

The truth of the prophetic word is founded upon 'Who' is speaking. In the book of Isaiah it is the God of Truth, the God of Amen, the Father. In the book of Revelation it is the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Son, Jesus. The prophetic word spoken is altogether true and trustworthy, and absolutely faithful and sure to come to pass, because the ones speaking, the Father and Son, are altogether Faithful and True Witnesses.

What the Father had to say to His people in Isaiah chapter 65, both to the unrighteous, and to His faithful servants will certainly come to pass. What the Son had to say to His people in the Church of Laodicea will certainly come to pass.

The God of Truth says this to His rebellious people:

“But you are they who forsake the LORD, and who forget My holy mountain, ...; therefore will I number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not hear, but did evil before My eyes, and did choose that which I delighted not. Therefore thus says the Lord Jehovah, “Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry: behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty: behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed. Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit. And ye shall leave your name for a curse; that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from My eyes. For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth.”” Isaiah 65:11-19

The Amen, and Faithful and True Witnesses says to His lukewarm people:

“As many as I love (phileo), I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hears My voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes will I grant to sit with Me on My throne, even as I also overcame, and have sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:20-21)

Consider also these verses:

Jesus said unto him, 'I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; so that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the Way you know.' But Thomas said unto Him, 'Lord, we do not know where You are going; and how can we know the way?' And Jesus said unto him, 'I am I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man comes unto the Father, but through Me.' "(John 14:2-6)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He does judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He has a Name written, that no man knows, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God. (Revelation 19:11-2)

Jesus often prefaced His statements with the phrase, "Truly I say to you," or "Truly, Truly I say to you," or more literally, "Amen, Amen I say to you," so as to emphasize that what He was about to say was absolutly sure, faithful, true, factual, and trustworthy. Consider these words of truth spoken by Jesus the Amen and Faithful and True Witness:

"And Jesus answered and said, 'Truly I say unto you, there is no man who has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My sake, and for the gospel's, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. But many who are first shall be last; and the last first.' " (Mark 10:29-31)

"And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, 'Allow the little children to come unto Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the Kingdom of God. Truly I say unto you, whoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter into it. And Jesus took them up into His arms, and put His hands upon them, and blessed them.' " (Mark 10:13-16)

"Truly, truly, I say unto you, 'That you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; and yoi shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in labor has sorrow, because her hour is come; but as soon as she has delivered the child, she does not remember the anguish any more, for joy that a child has been born into the world. And you now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man will take from you. And in that day you shall ask Me nothing. Truly, truly, I say unto you, whatever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask, and you shall receive, so that your joy may be full.' " (John 16:20-24)

"Then Jesus answered and said unto them, 'Truly, truly, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever things He does, these the Son also does likewise. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He (the Father) will show Him (the Son) greater works than these, that you may marvel. For just as the Father raises up the dead, and gives them Life; even so the Son gives Life to whom He will. For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto the Son; so that all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father! He who does not honor the Son honors not the Father who has sent Him. Truly, truly, I say unto you, 'he who hears My Word, and believes on Him (the Father) who sent Me, has Everlasting Life, and shall not come into condemnation; but has passed from death unto Life.' Truly, truly, I say unto you, 'The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear shall Live. For as the Father has Life in Himself; so has He given to the Son to have Life in Himself!' " (John 5:19-26)

To the dying thief, on the Cross next to His cross, Jesus said, "Truly I say unto you, 'Today you shall be with Me in paradise!' " (Luke 23:43)

"For Truly I say unto you, 'Until heaven and earth passes away, not the smallest jot or tittle shall pass from the law, till all has been fulfilled.' " (Matthew 5:18)

All that Jesus has spoken is altogether faithful, or trustworthy, and truthful, because He is the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness!
