This quilt was the culminating activity for our Nursery Rhyme Unit. Anne's mom emailed in the middle of our Nursery Rhyme project to let me know she read a story about a class who created a quilt to donate to a charitable organization. Moved by the story and being a quilter, Anne's mom asked if I would be interested in this project for our class. I was thrilled with the idea. So were the students. What you see is the result of their patience and practice, along with the talent and initiative of Anne's mom. After practicing three times on paper, over the course of a week, the students drew the illustrations for the quilt with fabric crayons on muslin. The image they created for the quilt also illustrates the rhyme they chose for our classroom book and the website. Our quilt has warmed the hearts of many: those who created it, those who marveled at the students while creating it, all who have seen its picture, or have heard its story.

On April 4, 2002, Mrs. Lucille Arthmann, the Rochester coordinator of Project Linus visited our classroom. Mrs. Arthmann shared with us how Project Linus was founded, who they serve, and some pictures of children who have received donations in the past. Our quilt, through Project Linus, will be given to a patient at Children's Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital. For more information about Project Linus please visit www.projectlinus.org.
