Broken AMC Model 20 axle info page

Here are some pictures of my broken Summers Brothers axle. It has served me well for 12 years. A replacement from Summers Bros. will cost $299 for ONE axle so I decided to buy Mosers axles this time. The stub came out of the Detroit and everything looks OK with the locker.

My model 20 is welded at the tubes and had a Con-Fer under the axle truss / skidplate. I recently replaced it with a Missouri Offroad Outfitters truss which goes over the top of the axle.
There is a good write-up of the install here:

Problems and solutions with my Moser one-piece axle installation

This isn’t an attempt to detail the installation of my Moser one piece axles, there are already good write-ups on the web (good one here) but some of my problems I faced and the solutions.

First the instructions were a little vague (to me) concerning the bearing orientation. They read: thicker/wider race to the inside. Well, if there was a thicker/wider race, it was on the side with the groove on the outside of the OD. This groove is actually where the bearing separates. One Moser rep told me that if/when I pull the bearing out, it will more than likely separate here. The taper of the bearing rollers should point to the inside of the axle tube. And the “groove” on the OD of the bearing outside race will be on the axle flange side.
The next issue was an extra ridge in the axle tube that prevented the spacer ring from fitting into the tube far enough to contact the seal. I ground the ridge down and had the spacer ring OD turned down about 0.20 and things went together finally. One Moser rep stated that the spacer shouldn't contact the inner seal and another said that it was OK for the ring to seat up against the seal. "Just grind the spacer OD until it fits in the tube at a positive stop and you have the proper bearing stickout" was what I was told. I was also told that the seals are original Jeep parts even though the local parts house couldn't cross any of the numbers on the seals.
