Building the Cockpit Coaming.

Yet another picture in which I have used all of my clamps. I glued the coaming in two separate operations. First, I masked the deck with plastic wrap. The first night, I measured carefully to position one layer of the coaming riser, trimmed the deck a little with the coping saw, and glued it with epoxy thickened with cab-o-sil. The next night, I assembled the remaining riser and the coaming ring at the boat's centerline, held in place with copper wire. Then the collection of clamps was put to use as shown here.

In the aftermath, I used a drum sander mounted in the electric drill to smooth the edges of the layers. This resulted in a lamination over one inch thick that really strengthens the entire cockpit area.

Finishing the Deck.
I decided to make a radius at the shear, instead of installing rubrails. I spent many hours with the sander to make the radius. Later, I sealed the deck and coaming with epoxy.
