Missing Star

Cold clear star-strewn night envelops all.
Brilliant stars flash off fresh powder snow.
Distant wolf, closer coyotes, owl swoops near.
Maw of aloneness gaping raw.

Sliver moon with earthlight-bathed orb,

Setting, blasting, in trans-arctic air.

Billions of stars, of us; the missing one is all.

Aching longing for that one missing star.
