My name is Richard W. Sumner and this is my website. I am the proprietor of "Memory Lane Antiques and Etceteras" and Advisory Director of the "Sumner Family Association". My home and shop is situated in Orange County, New York approximately 60 miles North of New York City. Not far from the United States Military Academy (West Point) and on the edge of the Catskill Mountain range which is a popular tourist area. Originally from Albany, New York, I moved to Middletown in 1960 being transferred here to manage a retail jewelry store, part of a chain. Unfortunately the chain of stores went out of business in a couple of years but I remained here selling "Twinkies and Wonder Bread" to the stores, hotels and restaurants in the area for some 20 plus years. Quite a change, but enjoyable and lucrative. Retiring from the baking Industry in 1985, I spent the next three years selling commercial and residential real estate in this area. When the bank I was doing business with started complaining that they didn't have enough room for other peoples money, I decided to go into the Antique Business. And that took care of that problem : - ) Having always loved antiques and being the type that couldn't pass a shop or yard sale without picking up something, I have accumulated many things. And when the attic, cellar, tool shed, garden shed, garage and most closets were full, I thought "Why not open a little shop?". I love the stuff and it will help me to keep out of trouble. Here I am ten years down the road, having the time of my life and staying out of trouble, well almost. I have three wonderful children, two boys and a girl and six equally wonderful grandchildren, five boys and a girl. And then of course, my childrens partners add another dimension to my life - a good one. I served in the United States Marine Corps with an Air-Sea Rescue Unit (helicopters) and was honorably discharged in 1956. As the saying goes, I was "computer illiterate" until the fall of 1997 when some friends convinced me to get a system. Since then it's been a learning process every day. How I do enjoy it though, both for business and pleasure. Wonder how I ever got along without E-mail. "The Sumner Family Association" is a world wide Association devoted for those with the name Sumner and those interested in the Sumner name. Headquartered in Pittsford, New York, it is essentially maintained by my brother Charles, ( mailto:charles.sumner@juno.com ), who has devoted so much of his time, energy and expertise to make it the informative and comprehensive Association that it has become. Links to related Sumner sites can be accessed by visiting my "Sumner Family" page. Well. if you have gotten this far, I thank you for your interest. I have made many friends over the net and hope to make many more, I want you to be one of them. Please enjoy the site and feel free to contact me with any feedback or comments. I am still learning. Enjoy life---This is not a dress rehearsal. Richard I love to talk about Antiques
