Hebrews 7

1 For this is Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, the one who met Abraham who was returning from the defeat of the kingdom and blessed him, 2 in which also a tenth from everything Abraham gave him, first being interpreted as king of righteousness then also king of Salem, which is the king of peace, 3 without a father, without a mother, without a genealogy, having neither the first of days nor the end of life, but having been caused to resemble the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.

4 But see how great this is, in which also a tenth Abraham the Patriarch gave out of the spoils.  5 And those out of the sons of Levi the priest are receiving the command they have been receiving the people according to the law, this is for his brothers, though being descended from Abraham; 6 but the one descending from him Abraham has given and the one having the promise has bestowed a blessing.  7 But, apart from every argument, the one being lower than the greater receives the blessing.  8 And here he collected tithes dying men receive, but there witnessing because he lives.  9 And so to speak, through Abraham and Levi the tithes being received were given; 10 for while still being in the reproductive organs of his father, when Melchizedek encountered him.

11 If, then, fulfillment is through the Levitical priesthood, for the people were given the Law, still some need according to the line of Melchizedek different to raise priests and not according to the line of Aaron to say?  12 For the transferring of the priesthood necessarily was also the substitution of the Law.  13 For on which it says this, “A different tribe has become a member,” from this he has not served as a priest before the altar; 14 for it was very clear because out of Judah our Lord has sprung, in whose tribe concerning the priests Moses did not speak.  15 And more still it is very clear, “According to the likeness of Melchizedek to reign a different priest, 16 which not according to the Law of commandment of the flesh has become but according to the power of life everlasting.  17 For it is witnessed:

“You are a priest forever

according to the line of Melchizedek.”

18 For the annulment of the preceding commandment came through her weakness and uselessness—19 for the Law was not fulfilled—but a superinduction of a better hope through which we may approach God.

20 And according to whom not apart from an oath; for those apart from an oath are becoming priests , 21 but the one with the oath through what is said to him,

“The Lord swears

and His mind will not be changed,

You are a priest forever.”

22 According to the greater and better covenant becoming guaranteed by Jesus.  23 And more are becoming priests because death hinders them from continuing in office; 24 but because He remains forever, He had the permanent priesthood; 25 where also he is able to save completely those who approach God through Him, always living to appeal for them.

26 For such to us also becomes a high priest, holy, innocent and undefiled, having been separated from sinners and being higher than the heavens, 27 which He does not have daily need, as the high priests, first for His own sin to offer a sacrifice then for the people; for this He did once for all He offered Himself.  28 For the law of man appoints a high priest having weakness, but the word of the oath, the one after the Law, appoints a son having been made perfect forever.
