The Dec 1944 National
Geographic special book on page 32 pictured the War Department
Civilian Awards.
The description on page 64 under Overseas Areas said " Length
of employment is indicated in the same manner for 6 months, 10
years, and 25 years"
Years ago I made my ribbon
charts showing these overseas ribbons with colored edges based
on the National Geographic description.
Other collectors told me I was crazy because these ribbons
never existed with colored edges.
About 5 or 6 years ago a
fellow collector sent me pictures of his War Department
ribbons.
The picture below with the ribbons in a tray is from Dave
Croas collection [ gone and not forgotten] and shows the Asian
Overseas service ribbon with a white edge.
The other pictures below are from various internet sites and
e-bay about the same time frame.
