Bible Study on Acts 2:38

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Who was this man by the name of Peter?

Peter was a disciple, apostle, and a follower of Jesus.
Matthew 10:2  Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Jesus said to Peter.
Matthew 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:19  And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Simon Peter was the first of the followers of Jesus to preach to the Jewish people as well as to the Gentiles.

Having been given the keys to the kingdom by Jesus, Simon Peter preached this first message of salvation.
Acts 2:16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Acts 2:17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:
Acts 2:32  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Acts 2:33  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Acts 2:37  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

When they saw people receiving the Holy Ghost and heard the preaching of the Apostle Peter they asked "What shall we do?"

That is when we hear the apostle Peter using the keys to the kingdom to proclaim the message that would be preached by the church.
