FAQ’s

Before attempting any repairs or upgrades on your marker be sure that you have removed the tank, “dry fire” the marker to ensure it is degassed then remove the battery.

My RPM is more like a blender than a Paintball Marker…

Complaint

Chopping or cutting paint has been noted by many other Odyssey RPM users, but most will agree removing one ball detent and getting a barrel with the proper style taper to the breach helps or eliminates chops altogether.

Cause

One ball detent works well and is enough to do the job, the 2nd ball detent tends to tear or cut the ball as it is being pushed forward into the barrel by the bolt.

What is up with the barrel? The bore of the marker exceeds the size of most barrels and therefore the barrel cuts the paint as the ball is being loaded into the barrel by the bolt.  This condition can also be called barrel alignment as “the barrel doesn’t line up with the bore”.

Here is a picture of the barrel alignment issue, as you can see there is an edge all the way round the barrel and the ball simply gets cut by that edge of the barrel.

Correction

The ball detent is located under the eye cover.  Remove one eye cover and push the detent out by sticking your finger in the feed neck and pushing the detent out of position.  Reinstall eye cover once the detent is removed. Save the detent, just in case you need to replace the other.

Below is a picture looking through the bore of a marker with only one detent installed.

Correction

To repair barrel condition simply get a barrel with a taper at the breach end or add a taper to your existing barrel by a lathe, file, a combination of heavy then lighter sand papers or dremel (although the lathe method is preferred). Below is a picture of two barrels; the one on the left is a WGP Stainless steel back the one on the right is a Demon barrel. Notice the differences between the left non tapered barrel and the right tapered  barrel, its pretty easy to see how a ball could chop on such a flat edge.

Here is a picture of the cone shaped grinding tool that I prefer to use in a lathe to cut a taper in my existing barrel.  The stone is only a few dollars and is well worth the price if you have a barrel you know is accurate, but it doesn’t have the taper needed to work on you RPM.

Here is a picture of a J&J stainless steel back that I used the above grinding stone on to cut a taper so it would properly feed the balls into my New Style RPM without chopping.  I used a fine grit sand paper to finish off the barrel after the stone work was done.

My RPM is Shuts off Every time I turn it on…

Complaint

Every time I turn the marker on it just shuts off.

Cause

A likely reason is the battery is weak, cheap or both.

Correction

Change the Battery. Use only good name brand Alkaline or better batteries.  Cheap batteries just won’t work.

My RPM shoots the ball just out of the barrel…

Complaint

My RPM doesn’t shoot very far, just past the barrel or may be just a few feet.

Cause

Your bolt is upside down.

Correction

Make sure you install the bolt with the air passage hole going down so the ball will get the air needed to propel the paintballs.

My RPM shoots great, but then when I shoot fast it has shoot down (loses distance)…

Complaint

If I fire just one shot it shoots normal. The more I shoot the more shoot down I have.

Cause

A weak battery is the most common cause for shoot down, it simply doesn’t have the power to operate the marker as it was designed.

Correction

Install a new name brand battery, cheap batteries just don’t do the job so be sure to get name brand.

My RPM doesn’t shoot very fast when I have a slow hopper…

Complaint

It just doesn’t shoot fast with a slow hopper,

Cause

First of its not supposed to that’s what the eyes are for is to prevent chops, but this situation can be made worse by the eye’s update logic on the board, this has been an issue on other Fasor markers.

Correction

Buy a hopper capable of feeding at least 15-16 balls per second.  The faster the hopper the better, I prefer 17 balls per second or faster.

I hear a hissing noise coming out of the barrel…

Complaint

I have an air leak and it sound like it is coming out of the barrel.

Cause

It could be the cup seal, but you better check the 0-rings on the valve.

Correction

I fought this one myself thinking it was a cup seal, after taking the marker apart a few times having not found a problem. Tom a friend of mine spoke up and mentioned the 0-rings are easily tore during assembly, but they may actually look good. So, take the marker apart (see the exploded view) and check the cup seal and 0-rings on the valve. If it all looks good (no torn 0-rings or nicks in the cup seal).  Then replace the 0-rings on the valve.  Be sure to lube them up before installation because the can be easily tore during installation.

I hear a hissing noise coming out of the grip area…

Complaint

Air leak from grip area

Cause

Low pressure hose came off of the fitting or the low pressure hose is cracked.

Correction

Remove the trigger frame to locate the source of the leak, replace the effected low pressure hose.

I want to upgrade my board; do they make an upgrade board for the RPM???

The are no boards specifically made for the RPM, but the boards made for the Diablo Wrath will fit and function in the New Style RPM. Sorry Old Style RPM owners, but I don’t know of any boards that are drop in fit for the Old Style.  I’ve heard of people drilling the extra hole and using the Wrath boards, but you better research that for yourself before you go drilling on your marker.

I want to upgrade something…

Complaint

I want to upgrade my RPM, but I can’t find and upgrades.

Cause

A lack of support has left the RPM out in the cold as far as upgrades go.

Correction

Use Diablo Wrath parts. Many parts and upgrades can be interchanged between the two markers.
