NEWS OF THE COLD, THE WILD AND THE WEIRD
THE DRAMA COMPETITION |
On February 23, 2007 the drama troupe that my teenaged daughter and I are members of took a production of "Dearly Departed" to competition. The drama troupe is called The Iowa River Players of Rowan, Iowa. The play opened locally in mid December to pretty healthy crowds. It was my idea to participate for I knew that cabin fever would be expecially tough with a 13 year old this year and for years to come.
I played two parts, Nadine the perpetually pregnant trailer trash queen with ten children all named after tv and movie stars and Juanita, the Yam Queen who never passed a mirror. My daughter played the deceased Bud Turpin's daughter Delightful and she was anything but. Here are some photos of our merry band.

This alluring creature is Aunt Margarite played by Luanne Krabbe who walked off with Best Comedy Actress honors.

Here we find Nadine (yep that's me) with Lucille discussing fertility and photography. Lucille is played by Nola Waddingham who is the director of a local library. After converting her from a gentile midwestern lady who speaks perfect grammar in sweet hushed librarian tones, she will spending several weeks in a In Cletus Waltrip's Trailer Trash Detox Center just east of Oscaloosa.

In this scene, Aunt Marguerite is telling Juanita the Yam Queen about her church work with Sister Wylene Erger's Ministry to teach them African Women how to wear Brassieres. I was honored with Best Supporting Actress.
