Biography
How I came to write erotica
I grew up in a not so quiet suburb of Montreal, Canada. The international airport cut a swath through the town and no matter where we lived it seemed we were directly under a busy flight path. Though it was annoying pausing conversations and missing chunks of TV shows, I ended up liking the sound of passing planes and to this day it's hard for me to sleep without some kind of white noise in the background.
As a kid, I wanted to be a dancer, writer or psychologist. As an adult, I got a Master's in psychology and became a certified aerobics instructor (close enough on the dance front), but I didn't do much in the writing department.
I was living in London, Ontario when I admitted to a friend that I secrectly wanted to become a writer. She asked what I had written so far. I said not much. She asked me if I had ever written. I said not really. She seemed incredulous.
"How can you expect to become a writer if you don't write?"
Hmmm, good point, I thought.
A few years later, after moving back to Canada from Scotland, I decided it was now or never and decided to give this writing thing a try. It took me eight months to complete a novel. It was dark. It was creepy. It wasn't very good. I tucked it into a box and it hasn't seen the light of day since.
As with so many experiences, my time writing that novel wasn't wasted. I learned though I loved writing horror, my work had an erotic slant. I also learned just how much I loved writing and that it was going to take a lot for me to give it up.
These days I split my time between writing erotica and horror. Mostly, I like my horror supernatural, but I also love traditional monsters like vampires and witches, too. As for my erotica, I tend to like it romantic. I have tried writing straight up erotica and it always ends up kind with someone falling in love (hey, there are worse things in life, right?). I think the stories I write that merge the two genres are my favorites.
2) My favorite band is Jamiroquai
3) I drive a stick shift
4) I can turn any song into a song about my pug dog, Pearl
5) I am addicted to reality television like Survivor, Project Runway and The Amazing Race.
6) Not only do I sing along to CDs while driving, but I also have little gestures that go along with certain songs
7) I love the smell of watermelon and cucumber.
8) I curse fluently in French.
9) I used the "thingy" more and more often the older I get (although my husband might argue I have always used it a lot).
10) My most recent purchases were 4 books at a used bookstore in Rochester, NY. I bought "The Great and Secret Show" by Clive Barker, "Bloodsucking Friends" by Christopher Moore, "Women at Work in Medieval Europe" by Madeleine Peliner Cosman and "Women In American Indian Society" by Rayna Green.
