The Elvenblood
Elvenblood is the sequal to Elvenbane by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey. I must say that after reading the first book I was itching to read this one. I had expectations, which unfortunately, the book just didn't meet.
The story starts off shortly after the first book ends. The wizards are building a new citadel and Shana, Mero, Father Dragon, and Keeman go out to explore plains behind the new location. Out on the plains they are captured by a strange dark-skinned people wielding weapons and tools made of iron.
However, the book focuses more on Lorryn and Sheyrena, a brother and sister. They are ruled by an ambitious Elven father whose only care is power and the things it can bring him, his family is only there to further his goals. There is one small problem . . . Lorryn is a halfblood, unbeknownst to his father.
Barely before he is to be revealed for what he is, he, Shayrena, and Myre (a dragon disguised as a human slave) escape the estate. Along the way they are separated from Myre and have to rely on themselves to find the wizards and safety. It becomes a journey of discovery for the both of them as they learn the limits of their respective powers.
In the end, the story is good, but not the quality that I was expecting from the first book. There just seemed to be something missing.
