The Darksword Trilogy
The Darksword Trilogy is another incredible series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The realm of Thimhallen is a complete universe based on magic. Everyone is born a magician, well, almost everyone.
The books center on the character Joram, a man born dead, or without magic. He should be truly dead, but he somehow manages to make it to adulthood by his wits and the use of sleight of hand. Then one fateful day, he is forced to kill a man and flees into the Outland. There he is found by the Technologists, outlawed sorcerers that practice the Ninth mystery.
Here he is taught the newly awakened art of black-smithing and meets Father Saryon, a Deacon Catalyst. Saryon is on a mission from the Bishop of Thimhallen, he is to hunt down a "dead-man" and return him to the Font. When the two first meet, Saryon is determined to carry out his mission, but then he has a change of heart. He comes to understand the angry, young man and most importantly he comes to find out Joram's true identity.
During this time, Joram has become the enemy of the powerful sorcerer who controls the Technologists, Blachloch. Having no magic himself, Joram conceives the idea of forming a sword made of darkstone, an ore that absorbs magic. Saryon is against helping him, until it is revealed how evil Blachloch really is.
Once the sword is forged the quest begins. Joram decides to go to Merilon to reclaim the birthright denied to him. With him are Saryon, Mosiah and Simkin. Here Joram will find out the truth his true identity. Saryon's faith will be tested and the fate of a world will hang in the balance.
Weis and Hickman have created another unforgetable universe filled with magic and characters that come alive to the reader. I definitely reccomend the series to any fantasy lover.
