My Hobbies

There are a lot of things I do to keep busy. Right now this page seems to be the one I spend the most time on. That doesn't mean that I don't like working on this page, I really do. I'm having a blast with all the different things that I'm learning with this project. I like making improvements to the site everytime I learn something new.

I guess writing just goes hand in hand with creating a web page. Hey, I'm writing right now, but this isn't the kind of writing I usually do. I prefer to write fiction. I write several different kinds: X-Men fan-fiction (focused mostly on Gambit), vampire stories, and stories on other fantasy topics. I've even had a story published in the high school literary magazine when I was a senior. It's something I enjoy, it keeps me from becoming bored at work. I just make up a story while I'm doing a monotonous and boring job and before I know it, I'm done. Now, all I need is a tape recorder that takes mental dictation.

I also enjoy reading. I read just about anything that catches my eye. I've read Shakespeare, Homer, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Anne McCaffery, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Ben Bova, H.G. Wells, Edgar Allen Poe, James Michner, William Faulkner, Jules Verne, Stephen R. Donaldson, Frank Herbert, and Dasheill Hammet to name a few. As you can see, my reading interests are many and varied. I also enjoy reading about the ancient world, the Mediterranian and Egypt in particular. I've also added a section where I review a book I've read recently.

I like working with my hands so I guess art was an easy and natural course for me in school, it also helped that I'm quite good at it. I enjoy most aspects of art. I like to draw, especially with pencils and ink (I love drawing people and animals). I also like working with oil pastels (for flowers) and chalk pastels (for people). Painting? I can take it or leave it. If I'm going to paint, I want to do something like a spooky castle or a landscape or maybe something from the Arthurian stories in watercolors. Sculpting I really don't care for. I'm okay, but it doesn't hold my interest. By far, I do my finest work in pencils. A gallery of my work is still in the planning stages (in other words, as soon as I figure out how to clone myself).

It would follow that since I enjoy art, I also like crafts. I especially like creating Native American jewelry and decorations. I've made quite a bit of jewelry and now I'm ready to venture into the realm of clothing. I also like making wreaths for different occasions. I've made a fall wreath and spring bonnet for my mom, a Christmas wreath for one of my best friends, and summer-dream catcher wreaths for my two favorite aunts.

I once wore this necklace to the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN and had several people ask where my kiosk was located. When I explained that I didn't have a shop of any sort, they couldn't understand why not when they thought my work was so good.
