Hello and welcome to Rushville Antiques & Trumpery.  We hope you will enjoy your visit!

Excerpt from the Rushville Times March 31, 1897 “ Mr. Ezra Jackson, of the City Hotel, has concluded to put up a two-story brick in connection with Mr. Nell, which will be another good improvement for the south side. The new building will be 40 feet front, if he concludes to take about two feet off the west end of the hotel, in order to have two good stores. The upper story will be connected with the hotel and divided into bedrooms.”

The former Jackson Shoe Store is now the home of Rushville Antiques and Trumpery.  The Art Moderne, Vitrolite glass storefront was added in 1939 when Victor Jackson became the proprietor. (The Jackson family sold shoes for over 90 years.)  We left the wonderful etched portion of the Vitrolite that spells Jackson intact, as it is part of the building’s charming character.  Much of the interior has remained unchanged through the years.  The ornate tin ceilings and one of the wainscoting skylights are still intact. Two of the old ladders are still functional. The ladders were made by the Bicycle Step Ladder Company in Chicago Illinois Pat. December 8, 1890. We filled the front with booths made from the old shoe racks.  The back room is filled with vintage furniture and decor items.  In a past era this room housed the latest style of rugs and linoleum.   The old tracking from the era when linoleum was a stock item is still in the ceiling.  The second-story hotel bedrooms are still original.  The problem is there is no access to these rooms.  The stairway is ½ block to the east.  You then travel through a hallway above three neighboring buildings to reach the 4 rooms. We are brainstorming several remedies for this situation.  We will continue to restore many of the past era’s “improvements”.

Next time you pass by Rushville stop in for a trip down memory lane.  We love to hear your collector stories…. reminiscing is free!  We carry many one of a kind items.  Our inventory includes:
