Patrol Leadership Positions
Senior Patrol Leader
Reports to: Scoutmaster
Duties:
- Presides at all troop meetings, events, activities, and the annual
program planning conference
- Runs the Patrol Leaders' Council meeting.
- Appoints other troop junior leaders with the advice and
counsel of the Scoutmaster
- Assigns duties and responsibilities to junior leaders
- Assists the Scoutmaster with junior leader training
- Delegates tasks to the ASPL. Makes sure that ASPL attends any meeting/function he will not be able to attend (troop, PLC, Committee Meeting, etc.)
- Oversees the planning efforts of Scouts for Troop outings (whether he attends these outings or not)
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings.
- Sets a good example

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Reports to: Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the Senior Patrol Leader
- Take over troop leadership in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader
- Perform tasks assigned by the Senior Patrol Leader
- Be responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: Scribe, Librarian, Troop Historian, Instructor, Quartermaster and Chaplain Aide.
- Serves as a member of the Patrol Leaders' Council
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Troop Guide
Reports to: Assistant Scoutmaster for the New Scout Patrols
in the troop
Duties:
- Introduce new Scouts to troop operations
- Guide new Scouts through early Scouting activities
- Shield new Scouts from harassment by older Scouts
- Help new Scouts earn First Class rank in their first
year
- Teach basic Scout skills
- Coach the patrol leader of the new Scout patrol on his
duties
- Work with the patrol leader at patrol leaders council
meetings
- Attend patrol leaders council meetings with the patrol
leader of the new Scout patrol
- Assist the assistant Scoutmaster with training
- Counsel individual Scouts on Scouting challenges
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings

Troop Scribe
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Attends and keeps a log of patrol leaders council
meetings
- Records attendance at troop functions
- Records advancement in troop records
- Works with the troop committee member responsible for finance, records,
and advancement
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Troop Quartermaster
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Keeps records on patrol and troop equipment
- Attends PLC meetings when requested by the ASPL
- Makes sure equipment is in good working condition
- Issues equipment and makes sure it is returned in good
condition
- Makes suggestions for new or replacement items
- Works with the troop committee member responsible for
equipment
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Instructor
Job Description: The Instructor teaches Scouting
skills.
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Teach Scouting skills as needed within the troop or patrols
- Prepare well in advance for each teaching assignment

Librarian
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Sets up and takes care of a troop library
- Keeps records of literature owned by the troop
- Adds new or replacement items as needed
- Keeps books and pamphlets available for borrowing at troop meetings
- Keeps a system for checking books and pamphlets in and out
- Follows up on late returns
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Historian
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Gathers pictures and fact about past troop activities and
keeps them in a historical file or scrapbook
- Takes care of troop trophies, ribbons, and souvenirs of troop
activities
- Keeps information about former members of the troop
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Bugler (Optional)
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Plays bugle as requested by troop leadership
- Plays taps during evening closing ceremony

Chaplain Aide (Optional)
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Assists the Troop Chaplain with religious services at troop activities
- Tells Scouts about the religious emblem program for their faith
- Encourage saying grace at meals while camping or on activities
- Makes sure religious holidays are considered during troop program planning
- Helps plan for religious observance in troop activities
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Den Chief (Optional)
Reports to: the Den Leader in the pack and the Assistant
Scoutmaster for the New Scout patrol in the troop
Duties:
- Knows the purpose of Cub Scouting
- Helps Cub Scouts advance through Cub Scout ranks
- Encourages Cub Scouts to join a Boy Scout troop upon
graduation
- Assists with activities in the den meeting
- Is a friend to the boys in the den
- Helps out at weekly den meetings and monthly pack
meetings
- Meets with adult members of the den, pack, and troop as
necessary
- Sets the example

OA Troop Representative
Duties:
Reports to: Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Duties:
- Serves as a communication link between the lodge or chapter and the troop
- Encourages year round and resident camping in the troop
- Encourages older Scout participation in high adventure programs
- Encourages Scouts to actively participate in community service projects
- Assists with leadership skills training in the troop
- Encourages Arrowmen to assume leadership positions in the troop
- Encourages Arrowmen in the troop to be active participants in the lodge and/or
chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Qualifications:
- Under 18 years old
- Appointed by SPL with SM approval
- OA Member in good standing
Junior Assistant Scoutmaster (Optional)
Reports to: the Scoutmaster
Duties:
- Functions as an assistant Scoutmaster (except for leadership responsibilities
reserved for adults 18 and 21 years of age or older).
- Performs duties as assigned by the Scoutmaster
- Has good attendance at Troop meetings
- Sets a good example

Patrol Leader
Reports to: Senior Patrol Leader. If you are the
patrol leader for a New Scout patrol, you will also work with the Troop
Guide who is assigned to your patrol.
Duties:
- Appoint the assistant patrol leader
- Represent the patrol on the Patrol Leaders' Council and at the annual program planning conference
- Develop patrol spirit
- Plan and steer patrol meetings. Prepare the patrol to take part in all troop activities
- Acts as the chief recruiter of new Scouts
- Keep patrol members informed
- Know what his patrol members and other leaders can do
- Assign patrol duties to patrol members, and help them succeed
- Sets the example
- Wears the uniform correctly

Assistant Patrol Leader
Reports to: The patrol leader
Duties:
- Helps the patrol leader plan and steer patrol meetings and
activities
- Helps his keep patrol members informed
- Helps the patrol get ready for all troop activities
- Lends a hand controlling the patrol and building patrol
spirit
- Sets a good example
- Wears the uniform correctly

Patrol Quartermaster
Reports to: Both the Patrol Leader and the Troop Quartermaster
Patrol Quartermaster duties:
- Keep all the patrol gear in order and knows who has it
- Check-out and check-in required equipment from the Troop Quartermaster
- Remind patrol members to bring gear to the meeting before each campout
- Tell Troop Quartermaster or adult Equipment Coordinator if something is broken
- Lend a hand controlling the patrol and building patrol spirit

Patrol Scribe
Reports to: The Patrol Leader
Patrol Scribe duties:
- Keep the patrol log which contains minutes of last patrol meeting, duty roster, etc.
- Read the log of the last patrol meeting
- Keep attendance records and collect dues
- Prepare budget for buying patrol equipment
- Collect the money for buying food
- Give the Grubmaster a receipt for his records
- Set a good example

Grubmaster
Reports to: The Patrol Leader
Grubmaster duties:
- See that the patrol eats proper, nutritional food
- Set a good example

Chief Cook
Reports to: The Patrol Leader
Chief Cook duties:
- Gather food from the chow box
- Organize the meal
- Supervise helpers (if any)
- Make sure the meal is prepared well and on time
- Assign cleaning up jobs for the pots, pans, and patrol cooking utensils
- Set a good example

Cheermaster
Reports to: The Patrol Leader
Cheermaster duties:
- Keep morale high
- Learn songs, yells, stunts and campfire programs
