Not to make idols for yourself

Shemot (Exodus) 20:4
Lo ta'aseh-lecha fesel, vechol-temunah, asher bashamayim mima'al, va'asher ba'aretz mitachat - va'asher bamayim, mitachat la'aretz.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

We are not allowed to make idols, carve statues, draw pictures or create any other forms or shapes that will be used for idol- worship. A graven Image – Hebrew pecel – is a carved image is a physical representation of a god, an "artistic" rendering of a god’s powers, or the physical representation of spiritual forces including angelic beings. All such renderings whether for purposes of worship or artistic expression are strictly forbidden.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:4 'Don't turn to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am YHVH your Elohim.

Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make yourself an engraved image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth; and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the army of the sky, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which YHVH your Elohim has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky. (Deuteronomy 4:16-19 HNV)

Romans 1:23, 25
and traded the glory of the incorruptible Elohim for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things... who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amein.

Tehillim (Psalms) 115:4-8
We should not worship creation instead of the Creator.

Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they don't speak; They have eyes, but they don't see; They have ears, but they don't hear; They have noses, but they don't smell; They have hands, but they don't feel; They have feet, but they don't walk; Neither do they speak through their throat. Those who make them will be like them; Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

People trust in these idols which have no ability to speak, see or hear. This psalm also points out that we will become like who we worship. If we worship idols, we will become like them. If we worship YHVH, we will be like our heavely Father.

Revelation 9:20
The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn't repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn't worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk.

Let's say our children are in school and the teacher has them make something like a dream catcher. This has pagan origins, related to Native American shamanism. But yet all sorts of things like this are taught in schools. This is why some parents choose to homeschool.
