Not to listen to the misleader to idols
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13:9 (8)
Lo-toveh lo velo tishma elav velo-tachos eynecha alav velo-tachmol velo-techaseh alav.
Do not agree with him, and do not listen to him. Do not let your eyes pity him, do not show him any mercy, and do not try to cover up for him,
We are not to listen to the meysit (misleader to idols).
1 Timothy 4:1
The Spirit expressly states that in ‘the acharit-hayamim some people will apostatize from the faith by paying attention to deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
We should not pay attention to the meysit. Their teachings are things taught by demons.
2 Timothy 3:13-16
while evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves. But you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, recalling the people from whom you learned it; and recalling too how from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which can give you the wisdom that leads to deliverance through trusting in Yeshua the Messiah. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living;
This is the key to keep us from listening to the lies of the meysit… The Scriptures! We must test teachings according to the Word of YHVH. If it does not match His Torah, then we must reject it.
Colossians 2:8
Watch out, so that no one will take you captive by means of philosophy and empty deceit, following human tradition which accords with the elemental spirits of the world but does not accord with the Messiah.
The traditional view of this mitzvah says that we should not tolerate the meysit among our congregation.
Revelation 2:2
"I know what you have been doing, how hard you have worked, how you have persevered, and how you can’t stand wicked people; so you tested those who call themselves emissaries but aren’t—and you found them to be liars.
Revelation 2:6
But you have this in your favor: you hate what the Nicolaitans do—I hate it too.
We don''t know exactly who the Nicolatans were. Although it could be that they were a sect involved in some sort of idolatrous practice. One possibility can be found in verse 14, 15:
Revelation 2:14-15
Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: you have some people who hold to the teaching of Bil‘am, who taught Balak to set a trap for the people of Israel, so that they would eat food that had been sacrificed to idols and commit sexual sin. Likewise, you too have people who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
If this is the case, the sin is related to that of Balak and Bil‘am (Balaam) with the sons of Israel, as found in the book of Numbers, chapters 22-24. This involved the women of Moab seducing the men of Israel, which included acts of idolatry as part of their "offer." Nevertheless, we should not tolerate those who teach idolatry.
