Tumble Turn Basics
Once again, tumble turns are best learned using the 5' line off the boom. Before attempting this trick, you should be quite proficient at the sit down and stand up trick.
- Do a normal sit down and when you're on the small of your back, begin to swing your legs either clockwise or counter clockwise.
- The weight of your legs combined with the forward speed of the boat will have a tendency to spin your legs to the back of you. At this point (with your legs bent at almost 90 degrees and behind you), you want to keep the handle somewhere between your eyebrows and your waist - whatever feels most comfortable to you. It's best to practice this spin on the linoleum in your kitchen prior to getting on the water so that you get a feel for what you need to do once you're ready to try it on the water. (Note in the photo below that her legs are pretty straight. This is my wife and she just learned these this summer so she's not real refined yet!).
- As you begin to get your legs around 270 degrees, it's important to keep your leading hip raised so that your body doesn't have a tendency to dig into the water.
- Once you have your legs back in front of you, gently set your heels back on the water.
Congratulations! You've just completed your first tumble turn! Now do it the other way!
