Helping Habitat Without Pounding Nails

There are many ways to help Habitat for Humanity that do not require carpentry skills. One of the ways is through the purchase of Habitat for Humanity cookbooks.

In many ways, Habitat for Humanity cookbooks are like other cookbooks, but in some ways they are unique. The recipes come from Habitat for Humanity volunteers and friends. Many are ordinary folks who show up to pound nails and some are famous. Jimmy Carter, Jane Fonda, Paul Newman, and Hillary Clinton have each contributed at least one recipe.

At the end of each recipe there is a bit of nutritional information. If you want to know how many calories per serving, the information is there. If you are concerned about fat content, or carbohydrates of sodium, that information is also there.

Two of the cookbooks have a wide variety of recipes, and one concentrates on sweets. The recipes can come from anywhere a Habitat for Humanity volunteer happens to be, so it is not all Scandinavian cooking.

The cookbooks cost $12.95 each. Our affiliate purchases them by the case for about half the purchase price, so when you purchase a book from our affiliate, it gives us money to purchase building materials. Habitat for Humanity International also earns a bit of money as these books are sold, so you are helping them operate as well.

When I went to college I had two recipes. One was on a hamburger helper box, and the other was on the back of a bag of chocolate chips. A cookbook would have been handy.

I buy them as gifts for people who are leaving home, or just getting married. Whenever I do I am helping Habitat for Humanity and giving someone a useful gift at the same time.

I will have them available at the St. Mark's office, so if you need one just let me know. A simple transaction of paying $12.95 to North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity will make you the proud owner of one of these cookbooks. Thanks for your interest.

Sincerely,

Pastor Birk
