Our Ministries

Worship

St. John's is dedicated to Word and Sacrament ministry for the Davis-Thomas-Canaan Valley area. Our worship is liturgical, reflecting hundreds of years of church tradition. We celebrate Holy Communion on a monthly basis, as well as on all high church festivals.

Education

The Lutheran Church has a long tradition of supporting religious education, and St. John's continues in this. Children can learn Biblical basics in our Sunday School, while adults can enjoy Bible Study and discussion.

Community Ministries

Our monthy community food pantry.

St. John's is an active part of the Blackwater Ministerial Association, which consists of churches from Methodist, Southern Baptist, Roman Catholic, and Presbyterian traditions. We participate in a wide variety of activities to benefit our community, including a food bank, Christmas food baskets, and Thanksgiving meals.

Social Events

St. John's is a church that prides itself on its hospitality and friendliness. We truly gather as a family, for worship, for service, but also for fellowship. Church dinners, activities for children, and the like occur throughout the year.

Planning for our future

St. John's celebrated its 110th year of ministry in 2003. We are looking forward to our ministry to the community and the world in the future. Our most ambitious project is our new building program, intent upon repairing our aging church building and building a new parish hall next door to the church.
