In November 2007, the Parish Council approved the recommendation of the Finance Committee to close the Borromeo Prayer Center. Since that time, a committee consisting of representatives from Parish Council, Finance Committee, Buildings and Grounds Committee, and Parish Staff has been meeting to work out a plan to accommodate Parish groups currently meeting in the Prayer Center and to examine alternatives for the structure. Meeting Rooms for Parish Groups All of the Parish groups of the Prayer Center will be accommodated with space either in the School or in the Parish Office. All of the issues surrounding these uses will be worked out prior to the Prayer Center’s closing on July 1. Structure Alternatives The committee has explored several possibilities for the future of the old convent building. Commercial real estate agents were contacted and met with the group to look at sale or lease possibilities. Representatives of Sheen Housing also toured the facility. In both cases, it was determined that the expense required to repair existing problems and bring the building up to current codes would be prohibitive. In addition, obtaining the required permits from the Town of Greece and the loss of parking spaces would make any alternative use difficult for the Parish. Leaving the building empty with the utilities turned off or minimized could lead to problems with vandalism, etc. Furthermore, deterioration from lack of maintenance would be a major safety consideration and we would still have to pay for hazard and liability insurance on the empty building. These and other considerations have led the committee to investigate the steps necessary to remove the building through demolition. This would save the Parish growing utility and insurance costs. Also, the space where the building currently stands could be used for additional parking. A required step in this process is an assessment of the amount and kinds of asbestos-containing materials in the building. A contract for the asbestos assessment has been signed and the assessment will start shortly. Decisions such as those needed in the case of the Prayer Center building are very difficult to make as we all have deep, personal investments in our Parish. The committee working on this matter has carefully considered a variety of options and is convinced that the course detailed above is in the very best interest of the Parish.
Stewardship PrayerMy church is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is.It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver.
It will bring other people into its worship and fellowship,
It will be a church of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith,
Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself Amen If not us, who? If not here, where? If not now, when? If not for the Kingdom, why? |

RCIA
Common questions of adults thinking about becoming full members of the Catholic Church:
What is RCIA?
Answer: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a journey that consists of learning about the Catholic Church through instruction and group faith sharing, participation in rites/blessings and reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Groups usually meet once per week from Sept-May. Depending on the amount of faith formation a person has had, the journey length could differ.
Can I still become a full member even though I haven't had any formal religious education training in years?
Answer: Yes, people start the RCIA journey with different experience and faith formation backgrounds.
What if I was baptized in a Protestant faith and want to become fully initiated into the Catholic Church?
Answer: All faith backgrounds are welcome to learn more about the Catholic Church. You will not be baptized a second time if the church you were baptized in baptized "in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit".
RCIC
Questions regarding RCIC - the journey children take toward full initiation:
My school age child was never baptized as an infant; can he/she still become a full member now?
Answer: Yes, the Church welcomes children who desire to become Catholic. The RCIC journey leads toward the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
My child is school age. How old does a child have to be to participate in RCIC?
Answer: Children who are approximately age 7 or older prepare for Baptism by participating in the RCIC.
What will my child learn in the RCIC process?
Answer: During the journey your child will learn about God, Jesus, the Bible, the Sacraments and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a full member of the Catholic Church call Sr. Miriam at 663-3230.
