- I studied solid state physics in the Quantum Theory Project, led by Nobel Prize recipient, Prof. John C. Slater. For my master's thesis, I calculated the electronic band structure of NbC in order to explain the unusual physical properties of this compound. My calculation Energy Bands of Niobium Carbide is included in Prof. Slater's Book "Quantum Theory of Molecules and Solids,
Volume IV".

- My dissertation described the effect of a hydrogen atom impurity in a cluster of nickel atoms, by means of a self-consistent calculation of the electronic structure of the system.

- My research was on the transition temperatures of superconductors made of transition metal carbides and nitrides. I became fluent in written / spoken German.

- I taught General Physics I & II. These calculus based courses emphasize the fundamental principles of classical physics: mechanics,
electricity, magnetism, wave motion, sound and light.

- I created a series of Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) to help students learn physics using remote terminals outside of class.

- I analyzed physical process of xerography using computer simulation. This led to practical systems interaction latitude tradeoffs that enabled the production of laser printers. I taught a class in basic xerographic processes.

- I developed manufacturing technology with the Xerox joint venture company in Japan. While living in Japan 2 years, I learned to speak and write Japanese.
|
- I designed electronic fonts for the DocuTech publishing system. While working with a Chinese software house to provide Chinese fonts, I made several trips to China and learned to speak and write basic Chinese.
