Outside of Andy Williams Birthplace

History of the House

The lot was purchased in 1881 by Margaretta Robinson, Andy's Great Grandmother, from the Blair Town Lot & Land Co. for $150. Her husband, William Samuel Robinson, built the house in 1890.

After Louisa Robinson (daughter of William & Margaretta) married Andrew Finley, they moved into the house at 102 East First Street. Florence Finley (Andy's mother) was born here.

After the death of Louisa Finley, Florence and Jay Williams, Bob and Don moved into the house with Grandpa Finley. This was in the 1920's and the family remained here until 1935 when they moved to Des Moines.

The house had many renters between 1935 and 1992, when the Wall Lake Historical Society purchased the property. They slowly began to restore the home, removing the metal siding to reveal the clapboard siding beneath. They replaced windows and re-shingled the roof with wooden shingles.

The interior has been restored by uncovering the pocket doorways, re-opening the staircase, replacing doors and light fixtures, restoring the walls and re-papering. The floors, with the exception of the bathroom, are all original.

The house was opened for tours in July of 1997. The entire house was decorated in 1930's era Christmas decor and special tours were held during December 1997.

The summer kitchen was brought to town in June of 1998 and set close to where the original one sat. The smokehouse was rebuilt in 1998.
