Williams Family History

Florence Finley and Jay Williams were married on July 21,1916 in Wall Lake, Iowa. Both were graduates of the Wall Lake High School.

Florence's parents were Andrew Blanchard Finley and Louisa Jane Robinson Finley. Jay's parents were Gilbert E. Williams and Louisa Rippe Williams.

Jay was a mail clerk for the CNW railroad. The couple lived in Carroll, Iowa where Bob and Don were born. They then moved back to Wall Lake in the early 1920's. Dick and Andy were both born at the Birthplace. Sister Jane and little brother Gilbert Emerson (Buddy) were also born in Sac County. (Buddy died at the age of 3 while the family was living in Des Moines.)

Andy's father was choir director at the Wall Lake Presbyterian Church and started the boys singing there. Andy was just 6 years old when he joined his brothers, Bob, Dick, and Don in the choir.

The Williams Brothers sang first on radio then in night clubs. In 1953, Andy decided to sing solo and the rest is history, as they say. Andy Williams is recognized internationally and sings on yet today!
