Pennylvania Railroad Roundhouse
Sodus Point, NY
yet another tour by Scot Lawrence

The PRR Sodus Point yard,on the shores of Lake Ontario,
was the northernmost point on the PRR Elmira Branch.
Here coal was unloaded into Great Lakes freight ships.
the Elmira branch was one of the last holdouts of Steam power on the PRR.
Big Pennsy mainline steamers were running here until 1957!

The tiny 3-stall roundhouse still stands! deep in the property of a local marina.
On a nice May afternoon I decided to take a ride out along the shore of Lake Ontario to
Sodus Point, to see if I could find this rumoured PRR roundhouse!
I pulled into the Marina lot, and there she was! :)
after a quick stop into the marina office to ask the friendly marina guy for permission to "take a walk
back and photograph your roundhouse for a few minutes" I was on my way!

the roundhouse is used for storage by the marina..boat stuff.

There is NO trace of the turntable pit at all!
it is completely filled in, and you cant even tell where the edges of it were!

This photo is taken from a public road, behind the roundhouse.

the "Genesee Malt House" also still stands! a huge and unmistakable landmark along
Sodus Bay. the PRR tracks once ran right alongside this structure, to the huge coal
pier on the lake. There is no visible trace of the coal pier or trestle.
