Q.

A.

An agents responsibility quite simply is to work for the player and to
work in his best interest. Each players needs are different so an agents responsibility changes with each individual player, however the fact that an agent must continuously keep the players best interest in mind never changes. |
Do I need an agent if I hope to play
professionally in the United States? |
Not all players need an agent, by using
the resources that are available to you such as the world wide web and by contacting teams on your own you can find out when and where teams are holding their tryouts. Where an agent becomes helpful is in already having established many of these contacts and in knowing what certain teams are looking for. Also, due to their resources an agent may be better able to promote you as well as negotiate possible contracts. |
Where an agent can benefit a player is by having knowledge in what
a certain players market value is. A player agent in many instances can not get a player more then their fair market value, however an agent is more then likely to have a better understanding of what that value is then most players. |

What is the single most important aspect in
choosing an agent? |
Q.
A.
I would say Trust. You need to trust that the agent will work in your
best interest. As nearly as important as trust is experience. An agent is just another word for consultant, and there is no substitute for experience when advising someone of there options. |
