On Lies in Books
Consider: there are books that are secret, books that are lost, and books that are known and well-read. There are books of history and books of marvels, like those by Thucidydes, Pliny, and the Zend-Avesta. Consider too that many of these histories are false, and while they claim to give you truth, lies will rise up in them from the interpolations of bad scribes and the mistakes of bad historians, and no one can tell the difference except the learned.
And then consider the books of the Felrreo. In these, the lies are made into truths. They rise up in the pages like islands surfacing and displacing the sea. Like mountains pushing up and displacing cities and swallowing borders, the words of the Felrreo will move you either inches or miles, as you read, away from your well-known shores.

[Consider, my readers! Here is a book of gods, with its ancillary stories of divine adventures. A book of secrets, it calls out to be known and unknown: a conundrum. In translating it for the seekers I have undone the conundrum a little, but my candle sheds no light on its truths or untruths. These gods have names, but I cannot find their origin in Teonaht; perhaps it is among the Nenddeylyt. A few have names derived from the Greek or the Egyptian, but are so deformed from their originals that we can only count this felrreoht. The distinction between angels and gods is not well-made; angels are the offspring of monotheism and yet many of these old gods are more angelic or demonic than godly; some of them have their angelic (and demonic) messengers. One is dark (hadoht) or bright (fel) to the gods, meaning that one attracts their good or evil energies. If a god is at heart all benevolent or all malevolent you are seen (that is, bright) or unseen (dark) by them. Be on your guard how you invoke them! Sometimes they appear to you in waking life. Often they appear in twos: when you wear the cap of sleep, two gods will stand over you and counter or assist each other. You, though, with your darkness or brightness, can alter their decision. Thus do you and your god messengers make a triad (elinad), or synthesis.]

- The goddess of sexual love: Teuimast Kombya, ISSYTRA.
Sister to the goddess of mothers, and spouse to the god of violence. Only she can tame his rage with her seduction. Their children are all the other gods and all fruitful contradictions. A woman who has fallen in love is said to have been touched by Issytra. A man who has fallen in love is said to have been kissed by the goddess Issytra. One who is dark to her is cold, or manipulative. Wives, virgins, and prostitutes alike invoke her.
- The goddess of pleasure and wisdom: Teuimast Volwyat, BASTET
Spouse to the old god (see below). Also known as the goddess of tolerance and the strength of practicality. Also known as the Cat goddess, and spouse to the god of time, her Gospels can be read. To do the best in a bad situation is to hear the purring of the Goddess Bastet. To be rewarded materially for your practical actions is to enjoy the kittens of Bastet. Her angels are the Feleonim, winged cats, who are also the mascots of Teonhea.
- The god of statues. Teuimod Rittadin. KODRYOF
Also the god of death, winter, freezing, and commemoration. He is also called the god of the past, spouse to the goddess of motion. If one has a remarkable memory, Kronosai is said to sit on one's shoulder. To acquire long-lasting fame, one is said to have been breathed upon by the god of statues, or chiseled by the god of statues. The god of statues also looks out for those in comas or near death. One is said to be frozen by the god of statues if he erects a likeness of you in the halls of the dead, and all will know of your former deeds. Those whose deeds are mighty have statues of marble and diamond. Those whose deeds were ignominous or false have statues of melting ice, and they will be pushed into Veparema, the Nothingness, the Forgotten.
- The goddess of motion, Teuimast Umtomed. TOMMYSTA
Also the goddess of growth, spring, the Melting, and spouse to the god of statues. Travelers call upon the goddess of Motion for safe journeys, and for those who are bright to her, she gives good passage. Without her nothing could progress, including the growth of the fetus or the decay of the corpse, and we have her to thank for change, regeneration, and the pendulum swing of time and opinion.
- The god of garments. Teuimod Niffimuol. FYVYK
Also the god of disguises, shape-shifting and secrets, spouse to the goddess of poetry. Their children are Mask, Eloquence, Imagine, Hiding and Lie. The god of cloaks has a wardrobe (called VIKAFYV) full of garments, each one with a special name and form. He alone can use them to his advantage or to yours. He can wrap you in his cloak of wines and keep you merry, save you from drowning. He can wrap you in his cloak of gems and make you rich. But anyone else who attempts to be what he is not has stolen the key to the wardrobe. A hypocrite has been lost in the wardrobe of the god of garments. A deceitful man is said to have tried on the cloaks of the god of garments which will smother him.
- The god of light, Teuimod Lyreb. TSYREBAI
Also the god of the sun, of day, of male sexuality, of reason, spouse to the goddess of dark. A man who shines his knowledge on the world in the form of true scholarship and wisdom has ridden with the god of the sun and he is bright. Kings who are especially powerful and wise ride with the god of the Sun. Those who are dark to him have no wisdom or foresight. His children with the goddess of dark are the child god, the demon girl, and the god of moths.
- The goddess of dark. Teuimast Hadole. LILIHT
Also the goddess of the moon, the goddess of sleep, and spouse to the god of light. To dream a false dream is to lulled by the goddess of dark. He chases her across the heavens; she retreats with the light she has stolen from him. When they are apart she is brightest; when they are together, he makes her vanish and this enrages her. On special occasions she can darken him, but not for long. It is an unhappy marriage. Her welcome or unwelcome angels are menstruation and lack of menstruation.
- The goddess of vision. Teuimast Tindo. YNAFAR

The goddess of doors is in charge of all doors in the cosmos and in the soul. She opens and closes doors for those in need of help or punishment. The cataphatic god, whose utterances lead to logic and description. He is rhetoric, persuasion, communication, and law. He is the political god, the ambassador god, and the philosopher who will reveal all truths through well-chosen words. He is also the linguist, the philologist, the student of languages, and so are those who are bright to him, and they learn and understand languages easily. Spouse to the Goddess of Poetry. Son of the God of Thrones and the Goddess of Forms.
- The goddess of poetry. Teuimast Tenily. DLÕVORYA
The apophatic goddess, whose utterances lead to mysteries and contradictions of meaning. She is poetry, arcana, paradox, ambiguity, "maggelity," and imaginary languages. She is the goddess of mysticism and contradiction who will reveal all truths by hiding them. One who is bright to her is a poet or a prophet, and can understand the language of birds, gods, and angels. One who is dark to her speaks in meaningless glossalalia. She is the fairer sister of the goddess of shadow.
- The god of love. Teuimod Karyts.
This god has no name, because he is yet to be born of Madryast, he is already with Yrlo in Erahenahil, and already walking on earth as everyone of us. Charity (karyts) is what binds the universe, so it is all names and no names, it just IS. We know this god not through names, but through love, as Nicholas of Cusa wrote. This god has many faces, though, of compassion and forgiveness. Those who are bright to him spread karyts in their acts of kindness.
- The One God. Teuimod Uõnihs. YRLO
This is the name for the monotheist God in Teonaht. He has a history, though, in pagan Teonaht writings. He is considered the father of karyts, and the secret spouse to Madryast who is wife to no one and everyone, because Yrlo is no one and everyone. He subsumes, therefore, all the other gods under his mantle, as does she in her womb. In Christendom, his angel is Lorica, "breastplate," and he protects and guides. Teonaht stories of creation make The Book of Yrlo, which has been rejected by orthodox theologians, and can perhaps only be read as poetry and symbol.
