Recordable CD's have become very popular in recent months. The blank media is reasonably priced now at about $1 per disk. They are quite easy to use and you can get about 650 Mb's of data on each disk or up to 74 minutes of audio. They can really expand the storage capabilities of your system. Photo JPEG's eat up your hard drive space, but these disks hold at least 100 or more photos per disk and at very high resolution. The new digital cameras are also very popular. The combination of these two items make film developing a thing of the past. Imagine, you never have to buy film, you never have to pay for processing, you can print your photos beautifully with your new color ink jet printer or save them all on CD's. You could store a lifetime of memories on a dozen disks and never buy another photo album again!

The prices on these digital wonders have come down recently too. You can get a pretty good one for about $300 or so and the CD recorders are about $150. I know that sounds like a lot, but think of the overall savings you'll acquire from film, developing and albums. And imagine how much fun you'll have attaching your photos to your e-mail to send to friends and relatives over the Internet. You could compose your own family photo Christmas cards and e-mail them where possible or print them out and send them via the post office. Either way your going to save.

Color flat bed scanners have been around for quite some time but still remain a popular item. These allow you to scan your existing images (photos, documents, magazines,newspapers etc) and save them as images for computer manipulation. There are even "all in one" machines now that will print, scan, fax and copy all from one machine! They are quite pricey at this point and from the reviews that I've seen, don't perform nearly as well as individual machines. I am sure that they will get better in the future and the price will go down too.
