Let me
Introduce Myself . . .
I am a
professional
counselor (L.P.C.) in private practice and outside of managed care. I
obtained
my Masters in counseling at Siena
Heights University; Adrian, Michigan in 1996. I am a Nationally
Certified
Counselor (NCC) which means I passed a very tough test administered by
the
National
Board of Certified Counselors, after which I practiced for two
years
under the supervision of a senior LPC. And, I am licensed by the
State of Michigan.
I was
trained
and certified as a hypnotherapist in 1989 by the Hypnodyne
Foundation. My B.A. in Economics is from the University of
Michigan
(1971). I have been married since 1969 and have lived on a small farm
near
Hillsdale, Michigan since 1972.

Philosophy
of Counseling. . .
I am
mainly
a cognitive behavioral counselor. That means that I believe that what
and
how we think and do affect our realities. It also means that I can and
will bring to each meeting whatever works for each person. I
bring
my life experience and also a host of tools into each session.
As a
private
counselor, my job is to help you get more of what you want
from life. I do not drug you or analyze you. I am not a "shrink." I am
your helper and guide to finding the options and tools to solve your
own
problems. You are in charge of your life.
I
believe
that each of us has a spark of the divine that strives
to
live, grow, and be happy. I help you fan that spark into a flame by
helping
you find your options and then to make them happen. Sometimes this
process
can be painful, so you decide what to work on, how fast to go, and when
to stop.
Counseling
is about change and has some risks. Increased awareness
of
emotional and psychological pain is one. Another risk is that as we
grow,
some people in our lives may be left behind, if they cannot grow along
with us.
Together,
you and I decide when and how often to make appointments.
Our work
together is confidential. What you say to me is our
secret
unless I believe that you are about to harm yourself, or harm another
person,
and if you have or are about to commit a crime. Michigan law requires
that
I report such instances to the proper authorities.
You can
instruct me in writing to provide confidential information from
counseling
to your doctor, or other professional.
I may
suggest
that you do homework between our appointments to keep
the
counseling process going. This may include reading and recording your
own
progress in a journal. Or, we may conduct experiments to prove or
disprove
a belief.
You can
expect that I will give you "reality checks" as we
explore
ways for you to get where you want to be in life.
What
About Payments?
I do
not
accept Insurance payments. I made a decision years ago that:
-
I will
not label
you with a diagnosis that can stay in an insurance company computer
forever.
We never know who can obtain that information; employers, police,
government.
-
I will
not permit
an insurance clerk who has never met you or me to tell us how I should
work with you and how many sessions we have to do it in. That is
between
you and me.
-
You
are in charge
and when you are satisfied that your goals have been met, you may
decide
to finish.
-
Your
life is
your responsibility and you will probably find that the investment you
make by attending Counseling is the biggest gift you ever gave yourself.
-
My
fees are
per appointment:
- Couples
$100
- Individuals
$65
- Report
preparation
$65
