SAN FRANCISCO 11/99

My first trip to the west coast was an exciting experience. I initially came out to participate in one of the two required Preceptorships of the Certification process for Interactive Guided Imagery. I stayed on for another 6 days in order to attend this conference , to see some of the sights of San Francisco and have dinner with a former high school friend, Paul.

The view was as spectacular as anticipated. During some turbulence I watched this engine bob up and down and rattle this way and that and I told myself 'this has been done thousands of times' 'we will get thru this'. But I continued to watch that engine.(This pic was taken during my second trip out there in April , thus snow on the mts.)

I finally made it. I call this shot "GGB & Me"

The view of the Pacific in the other direction

Me and my 'EARTHQUAKE' pose

Three postcards I couldn't resist putting up. It's one of those deals of kicking yourself for not getting a better camera before going out.

This conference had close to 1000 people attend .

Workshops I attended

Jon Kabat-Zinn
Spoke on THE SOUL AND SCIENCE OF HEALING explaining how mindfulness meditation can contribute to the healing of our bodies and souls.

Joan Borysenko spoke about CULTURAL DIVERSITY , strong communities, simple living, environmental preservation.

James VanPraagh and Brian Weiss
EXPLORING THE WORLDS BEYOND in a journey through the boundries of time and space.

Candace Pert
MOLECULES OF EMOTION: THE LINK BETWEEN BODY AND SOUL.The key to unlocking our innate potential.

Mickey Hart
with the assistance of Arthur Hull ,gave us a glimps of what he calls the 'rhythm universe' with his SPIRIT INTO SOUND . Two hours of drumming ! ! If you can imagine 8-900 people circled around a tiny stage - each with some kind of drum or percussion instrument - getting reved up and instructed by Mickey and Arthur. It was breathtaking.

I sat in the very first row (of course) right next to this Rastafarian and those wonderful dredlocks. Sorry I didn't get his name

And here is Arthur Hull again. He brought such enthusiam you couldn't help but get envolved.

People clustering around Ram Dass for an autograph, to touch and speak with him.

Ram Dass - STILL HERE - in spite his suffering a debilitating stroke. He was one of the main reasons I attended this conference. " the wisdom is in the silence".

Stehan Rechtschaffen, led a workshop on Developing a Holistic Learning Center. He is the founder of the Omega Institute here in New York State which is the largest alternative learning center in North America. This was the last Body and Soul conference as we have come to know it and I was very sad to leave.
