About Us...

The Pease Church is a large church with the feel of a smaller family church. We belong to the larger denomination called the Christian Reformed Church of North America (CRC). One of the strengths of the Christian Reformed denomination is its emphasis on biblical knowledge from a reformed perspective which means we seek to make our Christian faith extend beyond Sunday worship into every area of daily life.
Even as we seek to reach out to our growing and changing community, we also celebrate our heritage. The Christian Reformed Church of Pease began as many other churches, as a “house church”. Shortly before the end of the nineteenth-century, emigrants originally from the Netherlands who had settled in Iowa, South Dakota, and Wisconsin moved to the Pease area. Until they had a building of their own, they met in various homes.
On June 15, 1895, with the leadership of Rev. C. Bode of Classis Iowa, thirty one members officially organized as the Holland Christian Reformed Church of Pease, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. The following year, 1896, a modest wooden church was built.  The brick building was built in 1907 with the addition of the current sanctuary in 1988. Further changes were added in 2001.
The struggling young church was anxious to have their own minister so they began working on plans for a parsonage which became a reality in October of 1900. This house now stands at 117 Hill Street in Pease.
That same month, candidate John De Groot accepted the call to become their first pastor. He received a yearly salary of $400.00 plus free housing, firewood, and enough hay for one horse and two cows. Since his ministry, Pease has enjoyed the leadership of sixteen more pastors.
From small beginnings, the Pease congregation continued to grow. We are now a congregation of over two hundred and fifty active members who come from a variety of national origins.  The original cornerstone says "Eben-Haezer” which translates to “Thus far has the Lord helped us."  In that same confidence we go forward striving to live out His plan for us and we proclaim and celebrate God’s love in Christ Jesus.
