Chaplain’s Message
Dear Brother Knights of Columbus and Sister Columbiettes,
Summer is upon us! These warm summer months give us an opportunity to rest from our labors. This has been a full Columbian year for our Council. We have celebrated the 50th Anniversary of our Knights Council and 12th Anniversary for our Columbiettes. We have had to say goodbye to some of our dearest members and have had the grace filled opportunity to welcome many new ones. There were many charitable functions as well as a few celebrations.
As the summer sun fills our homes with its warmth, we take this opportunity to thank all of the officers and members who have worked tirelessly over these past months to help keep our organization growing, not only in size, but in charity love and friendship. In my short tenure as assistant chaplain, I have had the occasion to get to know many of you. What I have seen and what we have all experienced is that Saint Mary’s Council is one filled with the warmth of the love of our God. You have consistently given witness to your faith by your care and concern for those around you. Your support for the seminarians of the Archdiocese as well as your commitment to the priests of our parishes clearly demonstrates your love for the Church. As we venture into this summer period of relaxation and begin to make preparations for the new Columbian year that we will continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit to always do the Will of God for us.
A special note of congratulations to the recipients of our two Fr. Michael J. McGivney graduation awards that were given at Saint Denis/Saint Columba school graduation on June 10th. The awards were given to Carolyn Cassidy and Michael Wych. These two young people are a wonderful example of what it means to be a Catholic. It is also clear that this does not simply happen, but rather that they were guided by the Holy Spirit and assisted on their faith journey by their parents. To them and their families a special note of congratulations. I would also like to mention all of our graduates, elementary, high school and college, who are part of our Columbian family. As they continue their life’s journey, that they will be guided by the principles of our Order.
I would be remiss if I did not stop to thank Father Tom for his years of service as our chaplain. He is both a friend to me and to our Council. His spiritual guidance over these years has been truly inspiring. Please join me in continuing our prayers for him as he serves the People of God faithfully at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scarsdale.
Lastly, I wish you and your families a restful, peaceful and happy summer vacation. See you at Mass! God Bless You all!
Fraternally,
Father Michael
