How To Get Promoted

A Cabin Person will be promoted to Pirate as soon as a Senior Officer notices that the Cabin Person has subscribed to YPP.

A Pirate will be promoted to Petty Officer after satisfying the following requirements:

  • Sail with the captain or one of the senior officers at least once, to show that ye know what ye be doing.
  • Have bold experience in at least three of the following: bilge, carp, sails, guns.
  • Have standings above able in at least three of the following: bilge, carp, sails, guns.
  • Have recommendation from an officer in the crew, saying that ye be reliable and friendly.
  • Be registered to Water Sleeps forum where ye can read important announcements.
At this point, ye have rank of Pirate, title of Midshipman, and we say ye be Petty Officer, and yer officer training begins. Ye be allowed to ask an officer to let ye navigate, but the officer can say no. Ye be not allowed to battle nav.

There is an enormous amount that a full officer needs to know. Ye will have a series of lessons as a Petty Officer, afore being given rank of Officer, still with title Midshipman, and we say ye be Junior Officer. Then ye will have a series of lessons as Junior Officer. After passing all the lessons, if ye pass a final check ride then ye be promoted to Full Officer (and no longer have title of Midshipman).

A Full Officer must be both active and considered an asset to the crew and flag, and have the recommendation of a Senior Officer, afore being promoted to Senior Officer.

A Senior Officer who wants to be Captain should talk to the current Captain. If ye convince me ye can do a better job, I'll step down. Usually to become Captain ye have to leave and start yer own crew.
