Junior Officer Final Check Ride

After passing the final check ride, ye will be stripped of yer title of Midshipman. Later ye may be offered a different title, but in the meantime yer new title will be Officer. Ye will no longer be considered a Junior Officer; ye will be Full Officer.

Final check ride consists of one complete voyage from beginning to end. Training officers aboard will act as experienced pirates but not give instructions or help. They are not supposed to try to read yer mind either. If ye don't tell them to do sometime, then they might decide to avoid doing it just to see if ye notice. If the training officer has to take over, then ye flunk the check ride but get to do another one in a couple of days.

Ye be required to:

  • Treat the crew as if they were jobbers, and have Hiring Jobbers turned on (hiring if somebody applies)
  • Do all standard tasks: chart course, nav, bnav, assign stations, hunt, give orders, give melee briefing, praise, divvy, restock, etc.
  • Demonstrate battle nav skills: maneuvering, shooting, grappling
  • Win three battles against brigands, losing no more than two (disengages don't count either way)
Ye get to:
  • Choose the ship ye will use (either sloop or cutter)
  • Choose the course (which can be an easy one if ye like)
After the voyage, the training officers will provide feedback. The reason fer this is not to hurt yer feelings, but so that ye know what to work on to improve. Some officers need more than one try afore they can pass the check ride, and there is no shame in not doing so the first time.
